Mobile Contactless Payments May Be the Next Big Thing

$
0
0
One of the things that technology has changed most drastically is the manner in which we pay for things, and a big part of the reason why that is the case has to do with the fact that paying for things using a card or an online transaction is far more convenient than carrying wads of cash around. The rise of the mobile phone and its many conveniences lead to payments being incorporated in this technology as well. Mobile payments are now becoming more common than ever, and they might just become the next big thing in the tech industry.

Paying through your mobile is one thing, but the statistics indicate that contactless payments conducted through mobile are also on the rise. The average number of contactless payments done using a phone have increased in virtually every area around the world. However, North America and Europe have seen a slower increase as well as a slower overall percentage of usage among the general populace.

Both North and South America have their mobile contactless payments dominated by a single monopoly. In the case of North America, this main player is Apple Pay. Mercado Pago remains the top player in South America. Google Pay has seen some popularity in North America but not as much as Apple. With all of that having been said and out of the way, it is important to note that Google Pay has managed to penetrate South America to some extent as well, and Europe displays a unique scenario wherein both Google and Apple Pay seem to be vying for dominance with no clear winner as of yet in sight.

The Asia Pacific region, which includes India, Japan and Australia, seems to be a different story entirely. Neither Google nor Apple have managed to penetrate these markets as successfully as they have managed in North America and Europe, with the market being split between a variety of regional enterprises. This indicates that local competition will be tough, and international corporations will have their work cut out for them if they want to make their mobile contactless payments the norm in this region.

Why Gambling Industry Has More Chances for Success During the Pandemic?

$
0
0
There is no denying that casinos have a considerable impact on the world economy. This axiom starts sounding particularly relevant in such hard times like ours, when the majority of industries, the gambling sectors including, are in decline. During the coronavirus pandemic, when airplanes are grounded and airports are closed, the airline industry have lost around $314 billion in unfulfilled 2020 ticket sales so far. As coronavirus is still raging and borders of many countries are shut down, its drop might not be over. Shares of cruises are also sinking during the lockdown: only in March, stocks of Royal Caribbean, Carnival Corp., and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings dipped by more than 50 percent. Automakers have met similar fate. Analysts have estimated that American auto sales could decline by 20 percent in 2020.

When social distancing is maintained and people are not allowed to gather in large crowds or even to be outside, entertainment and live sports industries also suffer a blow. This year, Disney can lose revenue of about $500 million per week that its parks are emptied of people. Hotels, tourism, movies, tech, retail, transportation, and food services are in the same leaking boat. Casinos are no exception either. American Gaming Association Estimated in March a potential $21 billion loss from their closures.

Whether they are looked at individually or combined, the industries do not draw an optimistic picture of the world economy in 2020. To arrest their fall, many industries have opted to get out of the quarantine, despite rising death rates in some places. Countries have been lifting the national lockdown since the end of May. Borders have started to reopen, airplanes to fly, and restaurants to feed people. Although casinos are not vital to life and do not provide bread, like the food industry, they still provide games, which people have been missing during the pandemic. When American casinos began to reopen their doors to customers at the beginning of June, people lined up outside them from 4 o’clock in the morning on the opening day. They even drove from different states to enjoy betting or playing poker, not daunted by the quarantine restrictions and new safety rules introduced by casino operators to rein in the spread of the virus.

By opening amidst the coronavirus pandemic, the gambling industry, like other declining sectors, hopes to balance out the losses incurred during the last free months. Its situation, however, is brighter than that of, say, the airplane or tourist industries. Neither of the last two financially benefits when people browse tourist places online. The casino industry, by contrast, can thrive from customers’ online gambling. On March 16, New Jersey issued closing orders for its land-based casinos, showing that their revenue fell 61.7 percent compared to March 2019. Its online gambling revenue over the same period, however, grew 65.7 percent. Indeed, the lockdown period has proved to be particularly beneficial for digital casinos: quarantined inside their houses, people were driven to play and gamble more. In Finland alone, more than 3,000 new customers joined Veikkaus, the state-owned gambling agency, after it had closed all brick-and-mortar casinos, or “kasinot” in Finnish, and had switched off all its slot machines.

Online gambling attracts customers not only because they are bored in the lockdown. The choice of games on the internet is much richer than their arsenal in land-based casinos, especially now, when all reopened casinos do not work at their full capacity. To preserve social distancing, casino operators have left the largest part of their slot machines closed. Poker has become now a five-hand game, which gamblers find tad boring. One does not deal with similar problems at digital casinos even in quarantine. Online casinos always offer gamblers different poker games, lotteries, sports betting, esports, roulette, scratch cards, and themed slots. While poker lovers feel restricted in land-based casinos at the moment, they can play a variety of games online: Taxes HoldEm, Pot-Limit Omaha, Seven-Card Stud, Razz, and 2-7 Triple Draw. Some players even say that graphics on casino websites are more attractive than in games played on real-world slot machines.

E-sports do not even exist in brick-and-mortar casinos, since it combines sports betting with video gaming. It also depends on streaming technology for its existence. In the quarantine, e-sports fare much better than live sports events, cancelled since March. While the NBA league, whose games were halted, is predicted to lose in 2020 about $450 million from ticket sales alone, E-sports leagues is continuing their competition by playing online. E-sports matches are streamed via YouTube or Twitch and are watched by millions of people. Indeed, their online audience has grown substantially over the past few month. Gen.G has seen an 18.2 percent jump in Chinese viewership. The first day of the ESL Pro League had an audience of 146,000 viewers, which is a 27 percent increase from the last year. In Finland, E-sports are particularly popular. There is a bi-annual event organized in Helsinki, and some colleges even include E-sports courses in their curriculum.

Bonuses are more generous in digital casinos than they are in brick-and-mortar gambling houses. Newcomers receive large welcome bonuses, 100 or 200 percent on their first deposit. King Billy, for example, showers Finnish customers with a welcome deposit up to €500. No land-based casino gives free spins to players, but the majority of digital casinos do. In Finland, Karamba casino and NextCasino allow their customers to spin 100 times free of charge. Special deals common on online casinos let gamblers boost their bankroll and pay longer. Loyal customers enjoy various loyalty schemes.

Thanks to people’s enthusiasm for digital gambling, the casino industry will be better off than other industries, when the pandemic is over. Even if a second wave of coronavirus hits the world, as doctors often fear, the gambling sector will pull through it, too, as long as gamblers continue wagering online.

WhatsApp iOS is testing a Search Image on the web feature, a Clear all messages except starred option and more

$

WhatsApp is experimenting with several updates for Android and iOS users that are in the testing phases. On Android, the Facebook-owned app is improving and redesigning Storage Usage, introducing some default filters that will help in sorting out messages according to their size and on the basis of them being the oldest or newest.

While on iOS, an important feature that WhatsApp is currently working on is to give the users the ability to search messages by date. Similarly, there is another interesting iOS feature that is in the working. According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp iOS has enabled the Search Message on Google option in its 2.20.40.26 beta update. This option was announced to be available for WhatsApp for Android users, and now, this update is coming on WhatsApp for iOS.

When an image is forwarded multiple times or at least more than four times, WhatsApp will replace the ‘forward’ button with the ‘Search’ icon. If a user chooses the Search on the web option, the image will be uploaded on Google.

Another good news by WhatsApp is about clearing all messages except the starred ones. WhatsApp already gives the option to delete all messages except starred.

But Storage Usage does not allow to save starred messages there. This forces the user to lose all starred messages if any option in the Storage Usage is used.

So, to make this easier for the users, WhatsApp is now testing a ‘Clear except starred’ option. This way, users will be able to clear some particular messages but keeping the starred ones untouched and unharmed.

This feature is also under developmental phases and is going through testing procedures. It is not known when it will eventually go live, and how many changes these features see before getting released as a final product. But the ideas are pretty neat and quite interesting.

It seems that WhatsApp is on a testing spree these days, and somehow, all the ideas of features that its developers had, now suddenly seem to spring for testing!

As per some WABI, WhatsApp is also testing on changing the color of the outgoing conversation bubble when the Dark Mode is enabled.

It is still not clear as to why WhatsApp is thinking to bring this change. Maybe when the user changes the contrast in the iPhone Accessibility Settings, that is when this feature will prove to be of some use.

It is not known why and what color will be given to the outgoing bubble. Dark Mode users are not so happy to learn about this. Maybe when the feature comes out live, then they will be able to judge it better. For now, in the presence of so many other amazing updates, this does not sound so exciting. But it is too early to say anything about all these features, as they are all going through the alpha testing phase.

As mentioned before, there are high chances that they will go through many changes before they eventually roll out, and even that is questionable. Many times, apps test features that they do not bring on the stable channels too.

Let us wait and see what fate all these upcoming features will see.

COVID-19 is making Facebook extend its Blood Donation feature more globally

The COVID-19 pandemic is something making us all worried and the increase in the infected people is making it a lot more dangerous than we considered.

This year started with so many issues and the COVID-19 is like a pause in our lives, we can’t move forward or backward but just stuck in the loop apparently.

Facebook has always tried to come up with some solutions to help the people in the time of need, the largest social media platform with millions of daily active users always provided a variety of new features to help affected people - from tsunami or earthquakes - but this time it’s nothing like that but the rise of CoronaVirus.

To help the people, Facebook launched a Blood Donation feature on its platform and this feature is aimed to help blood donors meet organizations in the need of blood.

Whenever any organization will create a request for blood donation, Facebook will notify the nearby signed up blood donors and in that way, it can help the people in need. The people requesting help can also add specific blood types in the requests too and in response, Facebook will surely provide helpful results.

In the beginning, Facebook launched this feature in some specific countries but with the crisis of Covid-19 is taking everything by storm and in this time of crisis Facebook will be extending its Blood Donation feature to more countries.

The stay-at-home orders due to COVID-19 are causing shortages of Blood donors and Facebook extension in the Blood Donation feature is meant to help the people in need.

The shortage of blood donors due to COVID-19 is causing a lot of problems and Facebook just extended its feature to more countries in an attempt to help solve this issue.

No Registration and Fast Casinos in Finland

$

Casinos in many parts of the world are getting out the quarantine, adjusting their premises to new safety requirements and unlocking their doors for customers. Land-based betting houses in America, Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Poland, and some African countries have already invited their citizens to resume gambling. Tired of being immersed in the virtual reality of social media platforms that spread fake news about Covid-19, gamblers eagerly flooded into the real world of brick-and-mortar casinos. People were so impatient to return to real gambling that some of them lined up in front of casinos' doors at dawn. Nor did casinos' quarantine measures dampen people's enthusiasm for gambling. Players might be required to cover their faces, maintain physical distancing, wash their hands repeatedly, and play four or five-handed poker games instead of more entertaining eight-handed ones, but they will still flock to casinos to experience gambling live.

Other countries are still weighing their options and keep their casinos shut down. As the coronavirus pandemic has not subsided yet, opened casinos might soon exacerbate the situation in the world. It is true that casino operators take the necessary precautions to keep the virus in check, sanitizing dices, cards, and chips, setting up Plexiglas barriers between players, and washing floors comprehensively. But the problem is that the jury is still out on how the virus is transmitted. Making a diagnosis of the viability of casinos' safety measures is a guessing game at the moment. Such countries as Canada and Finland are, therefore, right to temporize and encourage their citizens to confine themselves to online casinos at the moment.

To gamble online is by no means a less attractive option. Virtual casinos might not create a lively atmosphere of their brick-and-mortar counterparts, but they have more sophisticated graphics, a richer arsenal of games, and more generous bonuses. With the emergence of no registration or fast casinos, called in Finnish "pikakasinot," digital casinos have even reached the same level of registration convenience that is found in land-based casinos. Before no registration or fast casinos emerged, the online registration process was long and boring, because customers were required to fill out an application form with many questions. As these new casinos have eliminated the need to complete the application, registering with them has become as easy and quick as walking through the door of land-based casinos.

Providers of no registration casinos let customers open an account by simply logging into their bank account or any other online payment provider. Through this application, the casinos collect customers' KYC data and instantaneously create an account for them. KYC is an acronym for "Know Your Customer" and refers to a process usually run by banks. No registration casinos gather information about the identity and address of their customers, because they want to have a guarantee that their new customers will not misuse their services.

Some people may complain that, like regular casinos, those not requiring registration still collect their personal data, receiving the same information – name, surname, date of birth, email and postal addresses – that is filled out in the application form. This is undeniable, but, as registration casinos obtain this information by themselves, customers do not need to waste their time on answering all these questions single-handedly. Instead, they sign up within minutes and enjoy fast payment processing times. All deposits and withdrawals are also made instantaneously.

No registration casinos are also convenient because they preserve customers' local gambling data intact when they stop gambling. Whenever players decide that they want a break from betting, they simply close their internet browser. The browser will let them resume next time exactly where they have left off previously, and it does not matter what browser they use – Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Chrome. Any of these browsers will save their local information through a cache, a high-speed data storage layer which stores transient information. If customers feel unsafe, they can log out and then log in back by using their BankID.

No registration casinos are a new phenomenon in the gambling industry and is available meanwhile only in Germany, Sweden, and Finland. Finns have a wide choice of no registration casinos, the most generous of which are Kassu, SpeedyCasino, Hyper, Nomini, Spela, LightCasino, Zet, and FastBet. Their welcome bonuses range from $200 to $500. Their free spin bonuses are equally lavish. SpeedyCassino offers customers 500 free spins, while Kassu lets them spin 300 times free of charge. Finns also receive reload bonuses every time they reload their accounts. This is a match bonus, which means that it is given away as a certain percentage of gamblers' deposit amount. Its advantage over welcome bonuses is that it is gifted repeatedly, while a welcome bonus is a one-time present.

When digital casinos offer such generous bonuses and the fast registration process, land-based casinos might be missed by enthusiastic players less poignantly. After the Finnish government reopens Casino Helsinki, Finns might indeed flood into its premises in order to resume real-life gambling. Yet even if it decides to extend the lockdown, Finnish players will definitely have plenty of opportunities to enjoy themselves on betting websites.

Study Reveals Increased Engagement for Mobile Ads During the Pandemic

$

When the world suddenly realized the seriousness of the novel coronavirus and began shutting down to prevent an uncontrollable spread, a lot of eyes were on the tech industry to see how it would react to this very different world. How people interacted with technology was bound to change with so many individuals unable to leave their homes, leaving their various tech gadgets as the only source of entertainment and socialization that the average person might end up having at their disposal at any given point in time.

One area of the internet that seemed to be seeing some progress has been mobile ads. The level of engagement has gone up and down with lockdowns being put in place, lifted and then reinstated. However, on average the level of engagement for mobile ads has risen about 15%, reveals the data from MobileFuse (Via Mobilemarketer). This will probably make a lot of brands and marketing agencies tweak their advertising approaches, with an increased emphasis of mobile ads likely on the cards.

It’s important to note that the increase in engagement does not hold through across all demographics. While there has been a definite increase in engagement for lower as well as higher income users, middle class users actually interacted with mobile ads less frequently.

While this may be a statistical anomaly, it is also likely that this is reflective of the kinds of ads that are shown to middle class people. There is a chance that these ads themselves are simply not engaging enough, since there is no other logical reason that this demographic would not see a rise in engagement that has been seen in most other demographics that are out there.

With all of that having been said and out of the way, it is important to note that teenage engagement has risen a fair amount which is significant because of the fact that this has always been a key demographic for any marketing campaign to crack.

Pinterest is testing a revamped version of stories called Story Pins

$
0
0
‘Stories’ is a popular format of putting together ideas and thoughts across social media platforms. This format is very successful on Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. Even Twitter and Spotify are experimenting to bring this feature in their future updates too.

Pinterest also started experimenting with a feature called Story Pins in 2019. Story Pins were supposed to allow the users to put up stories based on their ideas. These Story Pins could contain different pages of images, videos, links, text messages, etc. This feature never reached the stable channels though. But Pinterest did not give up on the idea.

According to TechCrunch, in April 2020, Pinterest collaborated with a team of US creators to work on a newer, revamped version of Story Pins. This time, they are thinking to make it a source to share inspirational and motivational content in the form of stories to uplift the mood of Pinterest users. They realize that the world is going through a very critical phase due to this pandemic, and people are becoming psychologically, emotionally, and physically drained out due to the COVID-19. So, it will be a good idea to help them read positive and uplifting thoughts and words rather than personalized stories based on an individual’s personal life and observations.

According to Pinterest support page, "Story Pins are a work in progress and aren’t available to everyone yet.", however, interested users can fill out this form for early access.

This is especially commendable because stories format has been integrated into many apps now, and with Story Pins’ recent updated format, it will hopefully contain a special unique factor for the app. This will give the users a unique experience too.

Apart from inspirational stories, people can offer a step-by-step guide for cooking a recipe or even for creating a craft project. Like Pins, Story Pins can also offer ideas about decorating home offices, kids entertainment ideas, beauty tutorials, and a lot more. Due to the lockdown and social distancing implementations because of the coronavirus pandemic, people are generally looking up for such ideas, and Story Pins can help them in many ways. People are worried about how to keep the kids educated as well as entertained, so ideas for these issues have been widely searched over the platform already.

So, this explains the consumers' demand, and other platforms are also trying hard to increase the supply of content that is being highly demanded. Google and Facebook launched apps like Tangi and Hobbi which circulate around creating craft and DIY related content. TikTok is also busy finding new ways to help people provide ideas about craft, DIY projects, cooking, gardening, and a lot more in its own unique style.

When Pinterest started testing this feature back in 2019, it tested it in the markets of the UK and Germany. This time, Pinterest is keeping the testing within the US only for a little while.

All the content will live within the Story Pin itself instead of being linked off the platform in the current version. This change has been brought in response to the feedback from some Pinterest users who said that they did not want to leave the app to complete a project.

This version also has better creative editing and publishing features, along with tools that will allow topic tagging, colour customization, and support for media, especially videos.

Story Pins will be easily discover-able in new places like the Pinterest Today tab.

This version of Story Pins is not available for the general public yet, and creators cannot ask anyone to join the beta testers’ group unless Pinterest invites someone directly.

Let us see when this feature will roll out and how people will react to it?

Facebook reveals the results of the Deepfake Detection Challenge and shows some promising prospects

$

Digital face-swapping in images and videos using deep learning technologies are gaining mometum. They are easily accessible to anyone through deepfake generators and app. Initially deepfakes were launched in the toy niche created for Artificial Intelligence conferences, but now they have become easily downloadable software that can be used by anyone to create convincing but fake videos and image of public figures. Different platforms are trying to keep an eye on them to control the technology being abused.

Facebook began a Deepfake Detection Challenge in 2019, and after many months of competition in which thousands of people took part, finally, Facebook revealed the results just recently.

Controlling people from misusing the deepfakes is necessary because of scammers and malicious actors who can influence a political movement by producing fake videos and alter the reality and malign the reputation of otherwise reputable people.

Facebook began the competition last year with a new database of deepfake footage. Until this, the researchers were working on a small number of manipulated videos, but it was nothing like the humungous data used for the evaluation and improvement of things like computer vision algorithms.

More than 3,500 paid actors took part in the competition and recorded thousands of videos that were presented as an original and a deepfake. Some ‘distractor’ modifications were also made to force any algorithm to spot the fake ones by focusing on the faces in the videos.

Many researchers from around the globe participated and submitted thousands of models that would decide whether a video is an original or a deepfake.

After many attempts, changes, and fine-tuning, the algorithms managed to reach almost 80% accuracy level in identifying the deepfakes. But these algorithms reached only 65% accuracy when they were used on a reserved set of videos that were not given to the researchers.

It is not a guessing game, and it is not like flipping a coin and make a choice. But in the field of Artificial Intelligence, even small successes are considered huge, because it is better to move on to something, rather than nothing. So, this competition by Facebook gave the researchers and AI experts that something can be done with the algorithms if all intelligent minds work together to develop a system capable of keeping a scrutinizing eye on the deepfakes.

The data set that was created by Facebook was larger and more representative and inclusive than other sets of data. For a model to have a representative understanding, it is necessary to build a training set with appropriate variance in the way that real people look.

While creating a perfect training data set, Facebook considered many factors for representations. These factors include self-identified age, ethnicity, gender because Detection technology has to work for everyone, not for a specific sub-set.

Facebook is working on methods and technology for deepfake detection based on the above-mentioned criteria and understanding. Let us see how it turns out eventually and how much accuracy with the algorithms can be achieved.

Google is one of the largest tech giants and it is known for its unique products. Google always amazes its users by providing new and innovative products.

The launch of Google Assistant in the digital devices was a revolutionary step by Google and now there’s talk around about a new update in the Google Assistant devices.

A month ago, Google was in the talks about piloting some programs with Voice Match features to help secure the sale and purchase of devices with Assistant-enabled smart speakers and displays.

And now, according to the latest development, Google Assistant devices will be having a unique update which will be the most helpful feature of Google Devices.

According to Praveen Chandran Product Manager, Google Assistant devices will now be recognizing the people talking to them as well.

Yes, you got it right.

This handy feature will soon be rolled out in all the Google Assistant devices and according to Chandran, Google is expected to be adding a voice match feature in the Google Assistant devices and along with that default, speaker selections will also be provided to the users of devices with Google Assistants.

Twitter to soon come with an improved ‘account verification’ process

Twitter is planning to re-introduce a new built-in protocol for requesting verification. The finding was revealed by Jane Manchun Wong, famous for reverse engineering. She further said that the feature is not yet made available to the public.

Getting a blue-tick next to your Twitter account is usually limited to the accounts that are of public interest. For example, celebrities, politicians, and organizations usually get a blue-tick next to their account – a method that is purely harmless.

However, in the year 2017, Twitter faced severe backlash for allowing a blue-tick on an account of someone who was an organizer for the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville.

Following this, Twitter paused the verification feature in order to figure out how to allow only credible organizations with the tick. In 2018, the micro-blogging network tweaked the policy a bit and in 2020 it began verifying health accounts that contributed information regarding coronavirus.

But now, it looks like Twitter would soon be bringing back the option and allowing individual users to apply for the verification. Moreover, Twitter confirms that the process will be publicly documented.

According to Wong, Twitter will also ask for the user’s government ID alongside other necessary information. The verification team will also be liable to accept or reject a request based on the provided information. Commenting on the development, Alex Heath from TheInformation, said, "That signals the blue checkmark is being retooled to focus on verifying identity rather than denoting status or celebrity."

As of yet, Twitter has not announced when the process will become publicly available. Nevertheless, after facing criticism for years – Twitter is finally making a change and attempting to make its platform a bit cleaner.

Bypass YouTube ads with this trick! Try it before it expires!

A web developer by the name of ‘unicorn4sale’ recently shared an interesting trick to remove ads from sites like YouTube and some other news publications.

Yes, most of us usually find ads between videos annoying as well as disturbing. However, before attempting the trick shared by ‘unicorn4sale,’ it is important to remember that the ads help fund the creators to make more content for use – and thus, it is advised to use the trick mentioned below in a responsible manner.

The web developer took on Reddit to reveal his findings. He explained that the dots in a URL are simply used to separate the domain name – for example, separating YouTube and .com with a dot. However, if users add an extra dot to the end of the YouTube video URL – they will find ads to be disabled. E.g: "youtube.com.".

He further said that the same trick could be used to bypass the paywall/login block on internet. For example, websites like the New York Times (which usually encourage users to read its stories after buying a subscription) could be accessed by simply adding a dot to the end of the URL.

Normal URL, normal ads: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ut0Njyj3cbc

Altered URL for no ads (with addition of a dot): https://www.youtube.com./watch?v=ut0Njyj3cbc

Interestingly, the ad removing trick works perfectly on the main YouTube website. However, some sites and pages break altogether if you attempt this method. While some sites won't even load of will simply redirect users to their original links.

Give this method a try. We are sure Google will find a way to work around the ‘trick’ within a few days. But until then, enjoy the ad-free experience and let us know how it works for you!

Android 11 Developer Preview reveals an added trash folder for deleted media and messages

$

Android 11 Beta 1 has recently been launched and Google has added an interesting feature. A new trash folder has been added where all the deleted photos, messages, songs, videos or any other item will be saved, instead of vanishing in the digital cloud forever.

Previously, even up till now on Android, if any file is deleted, deliberately or accidentally, it just vanishes forever. However, with this new trash folder, the deleted files will remain in the device for a couple of days so that if the user wants to undelete them, they may do so.

Roxanna Aliabadi, Product Manager Android, explained that these deleted files may remain in the trash folder for around 30 days.

This folder has been available since the Android 11’s Developer Preview earlier. Early demonstrations of the feature have been shown by the developer Yuriy Mysochenko too.

It sounds very close to what the Recycle Bin in the Microsoft Windows operating system provides. Also, the idea of trash folders has been adopted by Huawei EMUI skin of Android, which has a ‘Recently Deleted’ folder, in which deleted items can stay for 30 days and after this period, they are automatically deleted.

However, Android 11’s trash folder is most likely going to be hidden. Apps will tell the users about their deleted items and if they want to retrieve them, but Android will not have a dedicated folder for the trash. Apps like File Manager are most probably going to do this work for Android 11 too.

Now, this is pretty interesting because Google is allowing more developers to come forward and manage the trashed files like Google Photos has been doing for a while now.

Android 11 has also added a scoped storage that revamps the way that Android apps can and cannot access and alter user’s files. This sounds to be a controversial change and may see a lot of reluctance and arguments from the developers' end. But it is going to be beneficial for most of the users.

By the preview, Android 11 seems to be quite a user-centric. It looks like Google is trying to make ‘Android’ act and behave as humanly as possible. And that is a good change.

Let us wait and see how Android 11 ends up when it officially rolls out. So far, it seems to be bringing quite interesting changes.

Just Like Whatsapp, Facebook Messenger Users May Have To Start Unlocking The App Soon With Face ID, Touch ID or Passcode

Have you ever used Messenger for more personal chats or let’s say to even receive important work-related messages? Well, while that isn’t the most preferred option for a lot of people, still Facebook is trying to do its best to make your trust it’s messaging app because according to more recent developments, as reported by Engadget, the company is currently testing out a feature that can protect your messages from the evil eye to the maximum.

Much to one’s surprise, if the testing phase goes well then users will soon have to confirm their identity all with the help of Face ID, Touch ID or even passcode in order to view their Facebook inbox in Messenger. This feature would probably operate in the same way as it works on Whatsapp.

The feature is basically dependent on your phone’s security settings and so how you unlock your phone would actually be also how you will unlock the Messenger app. In case if your phone is already unlocked, you would still have to perform the identity test to use the Messenger app.

Moreover, users will also have the liberty to set up a designated time period for when they are supposed to re-authenticate after leaving the app idle.

Facebook is testing the new security feature with a small group of Messanger’s iOS users but if the program turns out to be successful, the company will soon launch it for all the users on the Android platform as well.

Facebook’s new plans include giving more choices and control to people on how they can protect their important messages and the feature will serve to be the extra much-needed layer of privacy.

Such security settings aren’t new to the messaging-apps world as we have already seen a similar inclusion in the encrypted messaging app called Signal.

Prior to this feature, Facebook launched its own encrypted messaging feature with the name of Secret Conversations. Zuckerberg and his team are also in plans of putting up and end-to-end encryption as the default setting of the Messenger app. However, the implementation of it might just be years away but that still is the end goal.

As a startup, you have a number of fundamental business choices to make. But among the most important is the system of business communication that you set up. From email marketing platforms and social media profiles to business phone services - the way you configure your basis of communication with your customers, investors, and team plays a large part in your business success.

In 2020, voice and video calls are among the most important channels of business communication. 61% of US customers still prefer to call businesses above emailing or messaging them. And as the corona pandemic has demonstrated in past months, video calling now plays a vital role in the workplace.

Modern business phone services go far beyond covering your call needs the way a traditional PBX system does. Using Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), they allow for video and voice calls using either desk phones, or apps on smartphones and computers. Individual providers offer a staggering array of additional features, ranging from call transcription to integrations with CRM systems and inbuilt AI-driven analytics tools.

Here are the top five providers of VoIP business phone services with offers particularly attractive to startups.

1 - Nextiva

Nextiva offers the best overall deal for startups, with a comprehensive, reliable service, outstanding additional features, and plans near the lower end of the price spectrum.

With an uptime of 99.999% ('five nines'), Nextiva's VoIP package offers voice and video calling, conference calling, and messaging. Also included are functionalities like voicemail-to-email, call transcription, find-me-follow-me, and other headache-saving tools.

Besides these central services, Nextiva also offers NextOS, a proprietary platform that allows you to gain actionable insights into customer behavior and team performance. Powered by AI and machine learning, NextOS provides deep-digging analytics.

In terms of additional tools, Nextiva can boast Cospace, a team collaboration platform that allows for document sharing, voice and video calling, and messaging. You can also plan team activities and assign tasks.

Finally, an outstanding feature of Nextiva is its award-winning customer service, which is available 24/7 via email, live chat, and phone.

Pricing (36-mo contract, 5-19 users):
  • Pricing starts at $25.95 per month and user for the Essential plan, which already includes voicemail-to-text, Outlook and Gmail integrations, fax, and 24/7 live service.
  • Starting at $28.95 per user and month, the Professional plan adds video calling features, team messaging, some analytics, and popular integrations.
  • The Enterprise plan, from $35.95 per user and month, adds a vast array of integrations and advanced analytics.

All 8x8 plans include voice and video calling, HD videoconferencing, screen sharing, and team messaging. In addition, the plans encompass features such as omnichannel routing and social media integrations. This allows you to centralize all your business communications on one platform.

Pricing:
  • The Express plan starts at $12 per user and month. However, it only encompasses basic features and is limited to a single line.
  • The “X1” plan starts at $15 per user and month and adds call recording, call queues, and a detailed call log and basic analytics.
  • “X2” begins at $25 per user and month, with unlimited calling in 14 countries, text messages, and internet fax.
  • “X4” starts at $45 per user and month and includes unlimited calling for 47 countries, as well as advanced analytics.

This provider offers app-based voice and video calling, as well as messaging features. You can easily receive and make business calls on your personal smartphone with your business number.

One big plus of Grasshopper is its easy setup and administration. Admin can be taken care of through an online portal, and setting up extensions for employees, divisions, or entire departments is a matter of minutes.

You also have total control over call routing - which order numbers should be rung in, how many rings the customer has to wait before being forwarded to the next extension, and during which times this is the case (weekends vs. weekdays).

Grasshopper also includes a range of features to make its life easier for users, such as automated attendants, call screening, online faxing, voicemail-to-email, and hold music.

Pricing (billed annually):
  • Plans are based on numbers and extensions, and all provide the same features, and 24/7 live support.
  • The Solo plan, at $26 per month, provides one 1 number and 3 extensions.
  • The Partner plan, with 3 numbers and 6 extensions, is $44 per month.
  • Small Business is $80 per month, has 5 numbers, and provides unlimited extensions.

4 - RingCentral

Though its pricing is on the higher end of the business phone spectrum, RingCentral offers a virtually all-encompassing VoIP solution and applications for team collaboration.

Voice and video calls, as well as screen sharing, instant messaging, and conference calls are offered by this provider. Technological perks such as automated attendants, voicemail to email (or SMS), call and conference transcripts, and file sharing are also available on some plans.

Furthermore, RingCentral has embraced AI to provide real-time analytics of calls in terms of quality, service, and usage.

  • The Standard plan, at $24.99, adds video meetings, 24/7 support, and some popular integrations
  • The Premium plan is $34.99 per user and month and enables multi-site admin, real-time analytics, and CRM integrations
  • For $49.99, the Ultimate plan adds device status alerts and reports, plus unlimited storage space.

5 - Ooma Office

If you're operating on a tight budget, Ooma Office may be the most attractive solution for you. It offers passably comprehensive VoIP business phone services at highly attractive prices.

Ooma Office encompasses voice calling, messaging, and online faxing, as well as enhanced features such as call recording and advanced call blocking.

The services can be accessed through compatible desk phones or desktop and smartphone applications. In addition, if your startup already has a business number, you can easily port it to Ooma.

Another quality of Ooma Office is particularly useful to startups: scalability. Adding new lines is easy, and flexibility is maximized by the fact that services are not locked into fixed contracts.

Although it lacks some of the bells and whistles of the other services on this list, as well as features such as CRM integrations and analytics, Ooma Office may be a good fit for expanding startups that aim to keep costs low as they grow.

Pricing:
  • Ooma Office is $19.95 per user and month with a rounded feature set, with one exception: call recording.
  • Call recording, a few extra features, and higher usage limits are included in the Office Pro plan at $24.95.

Building a Solid Basis of Business Communication

While it is possible to migrate from one business phone service to another, doing the research and choosing the right one for your business from the start is worth it.

Depending on how fast you're expecting your startup to grow, who your target audience is, and which other platforms and channels you are currently using, you can winnow down the options. Until you are left with a VoIP business phone service that is a valuable asset on your path to success.

Good News! The Latest Hiring Trends Provided By LinkedIn Claim Signs Of Recovery In Various Countries, Globally

The recent job posting data provided by LinkedIn displays signs of recovery in various regions of the world, as a lot of businesses are working to get back a normalcy level during the coronavirus crisis. LinkedIn has seen signs of recovery in its hiring data during the last two weeks. The change is particularly noticeable in China, France, and Italy as economies have begun to reopen in these countries.

According to LinkedIn’s data on job postings, China’s job data is currently trending upward. China’s hiring rate reached 13.4% increased growth year-over-year as of June 5 of this year. This upward trend can be a positive sign for various other markets. It can also be seen in the data that Singapore and France are experiencing the sharpest recoveries from the coronavirus pandemic. Moreover, job postings in other countries including Australia, the United States, Italy, and the United Kingdom are also steadily inching north.

The data indicate that hiring begins to grow gradually starting 4-6 weeks after the coronavirus lockdowns began to relax in various countries. However, we will need extra information to see if this trend will hold in various other regions as the public health guidance and economic policy varies from country to another.

It is not possible for us to get a gauge on the complete impacts of the coronavirus in an economic sense as the world is still living through the pandemic. The shut-down of international travel will have a significant long-term impact on the economy of the world. Currently, we cannot estimate the full extent of the effects of the coronavirus pandemic as it will take a period of adjustments to see where various businesses are placed.

According to the recent data from LinkedIn’s Workforce Confidence Index, in public administration, 32% of people taking an online course started learning online to open new career paths. 32% of workers in the design industry, 31% in the retail industry, 28% in the entertainment industry, 25% in media and communications industry, and 25% in non-profit organizations reported reskilling for a career change. Whereas workers in industries such as real estate where the confidence level is high are taking an online course mainly to enhance their skills within the industry they are currently working in.

However, for now, this news seems like a glimmer of light at the end of a tunnel. The company also notes that a lot of professionals are looking to acquire extra skills or enhance their skills during the COVID-19 pandemic. LinkedIn stated that we will require widespread re-skilling of individuals who lost their jobs during the pandemic and need to learn digital literacy skills such as basic web design or social media networks. They will also have to learn soft skills such as how to provide feedback and how to overcome bias.

Currently, we are going through an unprecedented situation, and people are doing their best to deal with different impacts of the pandemic. But now it seems that we are now on the road to recovery from the pandemic.

Google Photos is testing the ‘Explore Map’ feature to view all your photos and videos by their location

Google has recently released the Google Photos version 4.52 and has included a new feature. This feature has not been made available for the users though, but it is in the testing phase.

The feature that Google Photos is working on will give the ability to users to view all their photos and videos by a map view on the basis of the location that they were taken or clicked.

This idea is based on the ‘Photo Map for Google Photos’ feature that was released by a third-party application in 2019. Now, Google Photos is making it an official and native feature for future updates.

This feature was first spotted in the Google Photos 4.52 version on the Google Play Store by Alessandro Paluzzi, an Android developer who has spotted several upcoming features in various apps including Instagram and Twitter.

He noticed that when you open up the Photos app and go to the ‘Search’ tab, a new map widget will be shown under the ‘Places’ section. You can tap on the ‘Explore Map’ button and launch the feature, or you can click on suggested location chips under the widget to filter your photos by the location they were clicked.

You will see an introductory dialogue box if you are launching the ‘Explore Map’ feature for the first time.

This feature will make people relive the places they have been to, and cherish the moments they spent there. By showing photos this way, they will be able to filter the photos and organize them on the basis of their locations, while also making the users feel the essence of the beautiful times they spent in those particular locations through their photos.

For this feature to work, photos must have location information because the map uses this location information from the camera’s GPS, Google Location History, and any detected landmarks that are seen in the photos too. So, obviously, a device’s location must be on for this map to collect all this information, and that is slightly concerning. The feature itself is great but Google will get more access to the users’ location and even some travel history through these locations. This is already a huge concern amongst many people that Google has access to almost everything we do, and now, it will have access to our photos because of their location.

Google Photos will also see the users’ location marked by a heatmap to show them the areas they have visited and places where they have taken pictures frequently. That is a lot of information that Google will have access to, and that is slightly overwhelming and definitely concerning.

When a user will click on a photo, the feature is going to give the user the map view of the exact place where that picture was taken if the location information has been saved with the photo.

As mentioned before, this feature is available in the recent version of Google Photos, but it is not known yet that when will it roll out eventually for the users.

Twitter Is Developing A New Feature Which Will Allow Users To View A Single Topic And Its Feed Without Following

Twitter has been making improvements and introducing new features to make the platform better for its users. The micro-blogging platform rolled out the Topic feature back in the year 2019. This feature allows users to follow conversations related to a specific topic. It is similar to how you follow an account on the platform with a single tap. These Topic suggestions are displayed on your timeline as well in search, based on what type of content you tend to look for across the platform and what you already follow on the app.

Currently, users have to follow a specific Topic to view conversations related to that Topic. Now, it seems that the company is developing a new feature to allow users to see a single Topic along with its feed without having to follow that Topic on Twitter. For following a certain Topic on Twitter, tap Topics in the profile icon menu, and then tap ‘Follow some Topics.’ Now, you can follow Topics that you like, and tap ‘Done’ when you are finished following the Topics.

Recently, a reverse engineering expert shared a screenshot on Twitter saying that the company is working on a new feature to provide users with the ability to see a single Topic with its feed. The feature was discovered by the popular reverse engineering expert, Jane Manchun Wong. Jane Wong tweeted that the new feature will allow you to view a Topic without having to follow that topic on Twitter.

The reverse engineering expert shared the screenshot to elaborate how the feature looks. However, Twitter has not yet confirmed when the company will be releasing out the new feature. We are also not yet sure whether the company will ever roll out the new feature or not. But, we can surely say that this feature will be a great addition to Twitter and it will be useful for a lot of users in various ways.

Instagram’s DM Button Disappears During Shop Shortcut Test

Instagram has been pushing its Shop feature for quite some time now, and this is mostly because eCommerce has been known to be a huge earner for a lot of big tech companies and social media platforms are trying to mobilize their highly engaged users and involve them in online shopping on their own platforms which has the potential to generate enormous amounts of revenue. However, accessing the Shop feature has not been quite as easy as it is supposed to be for a lot of users, and this is something that Instagram would definitely want to tackle for a wide variety of reasons one of them being that users simply won’t be interested in a service if it is difficult to manage in any way, shape or form.

With all of that having been said and out of the way, it is important to note that Instagram has tried to simplify the shopping process by adding a dedicated Shop button in the bottom bar, as spotted by Alessandro Paluzzi. This is a great idea on paper since it has the potential to make shopping just a click away, thereby making it so that users would start shopping a lot more often than might have been the case otherwise.

However, it seems like the test the alpha version of the app wherein this feature was being tested has seen a glitch emerge. This glitch is essentially that the direct messaging button has disappeared. This is a huge glitch since direct messaging is perhaps one of the most important and widely used features that Instagram has to offer. Users have already started to notice this glitch, and some have suggested that it might suggest a change in approach for the Facebook-owned media sharing platform. This would be an odd move for the platform, but we will have to wait and see what developments arise as the changes become more widely rolled out.

WhatsApp Launches Facebook-powered Payments Feature For Users In Brazil

If you are a person who lives in Brazil and uses WhatsApp messaging service, you can now send and receive payments by using WhatsApp. The company announced today that WhatsApp users in Brazil can now send and receive payments securely right from within their WhatsApp chat with friends, family members, or businesses.

According to a post on Facebook-owned WhatsApp’s blog, the new payments feature is powered by Facebook Pay. WhatsApp users in Brazil will be able to send as well as receive payments from their loved ones with WhatsApp business accounts. The new feature will make it easier and quicker for small businesses to send and receive money.

The company stated that the payment will be secure and WhatsApp will require a six-digit PIN or fingerprint authentication before users can complete their transactions. WhatsApp payment is supported by Visa as well as Mastercard debit and credit cards from Sicredi, Nubank, and Banco de Brasil. The company also stated that WhatsApp is currently working with Cielo. Cielo is the leading payment processor in Brazil and WhatsApp states that the company has created an open model to make it convenient and easy for extra partners to join in the future.

Users can utilize the new feature by linking their WhatsApp account with their Vira or Mastercard debit or credit card. WhatsApp payment does not attract a charge when a user sends or receives payments. However, WhatsApp will require businesses to pay a processing fee to receive money from their consumers. The company has already started to roll out the new feature to WhatsApp users in Brazil. The new feature will arrive for every WhatsApp user in Brazil in the coming few weeks.

This news comes a bit of a surprise as the company was testing the payment feature in India for several months. Facebook-owned messaging service first began receiving payments in India back in the year 2018. However, it was only a test run. Users were expecting that WhatsApp will first roll out the payment feature for users in India. The new feature was supposed to roll out to more users in India, but Facebook has been facing challenges with approvals in India.

Whatsapp remained stuck in a regulatory maze in India which prevented the company from expanding this feature to more users. It is not yet clear which countries will be getting the payments feature next as the company not yet made an official announcement related to this aspect.
