Psychologist William Moulton Marston is famous for two things. One of those is being responsible for creating comic book superhero Wonder Woman, and the other is for coming up with the DiSC personality profiles, which are over 90 years old but are still being used to help people and businesses get a better understanding of how we work.

Marston found that our personalities are shaped by four main emotion types - dominance (D), influence (i), steadiness (S) and conscientiousness (C). He then broke these down further into 12 main personality types, depending on which emotion type is most dominant, and these are still commonly used and debated when it comes to working out how to get the best out of people in the workplace.

For example, if you have a DC personality type, you are likely to be a ‘Challenger’, with high expectations and a demanding, questioning style that might turn people off, but still you have the drive to get results. Meanwhile, an iS personality is the type that will get on with everybody and works best in a peaceful environment, making them great team players, though not the best at dealing with conflicts.

You should be able to find the profile that fits you best within these 12 personality types, which have been illustrated as word maps by On Stride Financial, and you might even learn something about yourself that you hadn’t considered before. Are you the Bedrock or the Risk Taker? Every type has something to bring to the table, of course, and the best businesses out there are the ones that know how to build the right combination on them within their teams.
