Association of Independent Commercial Producers declared Apple’s ad as the year’s best moving image marketing. Apple’s “welcome home” ad was given the award for Advertising Excellence in the single commercial category. A Spike Jonze direction, the ad shows a woman (FKA Twigs) and how, after returning from a busy workday, when she asks her HomePod to put something on, her temperament changes for the better after listening to the song played by the device.

Let us embark on the journey to reminiscent the 35-year long history of tech commercials and how they promoted their product in the most artistic ways.

The first one that strikes out was the Super Bowl ad way back in 1984. Directed by Ridley Scott, this add describes the connections among the soulless corporate office spaces and PC consumerism during the 1980s to the George Orwell’s apocalyptic ‘1984’. It shows an army of mindless identical workers, being hypnotized by a depiction of Big Brother as a woman in a vibrant attire breaks the screen by a mallet, upsetting the rule of personal computing with a promise of a new world while introducing the Macintosh and declaring “1984 won’t be like 1984”.

Considerably with a more upbeat and relaxed concept, the 26-commercial campaign for the Dell computers was quite popular during the early 2000s. It features a teenage high school student with a charming personality who convinces the parents of his schoolmates to buy these computers.
