Google Maps is getting a major upgrade thanks to Gemini.
The popular navigation app is making use of Gemini AI to help alert users about any fake reviews or scam profiles that might be present. The tech giant shared how it’s updating all AI systems for business profiles and maps that will use Gemini to highlight risky profile edits and false reviews.
Gemini finds any such suspicious profile edits and reports them. Moreover, the fact that they can distinguish real from fake is a major ordeal. Any kind of suspicious shifts, like altering business names or identity from a plumbing service to a cafe is an examples.
Google shared the news through a blog post where it highlighted how it could train the latest model using assistance from Gemini to highlight profile edits. Any business that alters names from Zoe’s Coffee house to Zoe’s Cafe is not alarming, but if you change domains, that would be alerted. So in essence, Google is blocking thousands of any risky edits in 2025.
Google isn’t stopping there. The tech giant is also going to use its large language model to spot fake reviews featuring five stars. They hope to track different reviews with time and give the system the chance to find newer abuse signs, even after they’re posted.
So far, the company has shared the launch of alerts across India, America, and the United Kingdom. Such users are warned when any fake reviews are removed, but the search giant is keen on launching the alerts around the globe by next month.
Google also took the chance to share in figures and stats how its strong content moderation was able to really bring out the best. More than 240M reviews violating policies were removed before anyone came across them. After that, nearly 70 million risky edits to Maps listings were put on hold. Then nearly 12 million fake business profiles were deleted or blocked.
Posting was limited to just 900,000 accounts that broke the regulations on a routine basis. So what do these stats mean for the masses?
Well, SEO specialists and local professionals in the world of marketing underlined how necessary it was to get honest reviews and carefully manage business profile operations. As the company improves its AI, tricks such as fake reviews and unauthorized profile changes are simpler to catch.
Firms making use of shady tricks will soon be facing bigger penalties, and those focusing on better customer engagement will get more trust from the organization. The future looks bright for the search engine giant. It hopes to work hard to better the front lines and ensure more authentic services are up for grabs to users.
