Twitter promises ‘Wear a mask and treat yourself with your favorite edit-a tweet feature.'

Recently, Twitter punned to add on a new feature of editing, which has been the topmost demand of the users for a long time. Twitter's CEO Jack Dorsey recently replied to the recurrent queries of users and claimed that they desire to keep the feelings of the people from those golden days when they used to use this application as a message sending service.

However, Twitter's official account tweeted that if you want an edit button on Twitter, then everyone has to wear a mask without any exception, including the government officials and also the civilians. Importantly, Twitter has gained notable popularity and have a vast number of users throughout the world. So, a decision of spreading awareness through such platforms while manifesting the users with this kindness is inspirable.

Due to the prevailing COVID-19 outbreak that has flared up during the last few months and calls for a proper precautionary follow up Medical health workers are also stimulating the citizens to wear the mask in public places to avoid contact and minimize the number count of the victims.

With each passing day, the US has been reporting an increasing number of cases, and the tally is going higher and higher. Instead of such alarming conditions, people are not taking the precautions seriously, even the politicians are mocking this situation and are not treating it solemnly.

However, Donald Trump has imposed his likings for masks, but he disapproved of the idea of making the use of masks obligatory for everyone in public places. After acknowledging this, twitter has come up with this new innovative idea to pursue people to wear masks and handle this pandemic.

Apparently, Twitter and its CEO are trying their best to tackle the pandemic, Jack has donated a huge chunk of dollars for coronavirus relief funds globally, which are being distributed through his new start-up Startsmall LLC.

Following this, while considering the safety of the people worldwide, he came up with this idea of treating people with their most desired edit feature on Twitter but on one condition that all people should wear masks when they go out or experience any public meeting as, the usage of masks has been considered the most effective preventive measure against pulmonary related viral diseases.

However, this decision of adding an edit button seems to be a mere joke to pursue people to follow the precautions more convincingly as the concerned authorities have rejected this request of the people many times.

Likewise, Twitter has also confirmed through the tweet that it is not a trick. This shows that Twitter is again looking forward to adding this new feature but maybe it is only regarded to the case of handling with this pandemic.

A New Feature In iOS 14 Exposed LinkedIn App Copying Users’ Clipboards, LinkedIn Called It A Bug

Earlier this week, a user discovered that the LinkedIn app is repeatedly copying the contents of an iOS device’s clipboard. The plans to stop the app from reading this content in the background. According to ZDNet, the company says that it is a bug.

Erran Berger, the engineering VP at LinkedIn states that the LinkedIn application copies the content of an iOS device’s clipboard to perform an ‘equality check’ between what an individual is typing and what type of content is in their clipboard. However, Berger did not explain why this check is necessary.

Berger posted a tweet saying that the company does not store or transmit the contents on the clipboards of users. A new privacy feature in iOS 14 helped to discover this behavior. The feature is still currently in a limited beta for app developers. The new OS notifies you when a specific application copies something from another application or device. iOS 14 features a new banner that allows users to know if an application pastes from the clipboard. This clipboard feature has already exposed the behavior of some well-known applications such as AliExpress, AccuWeather, and TikTok, etc.

The new feature has ultimately led to users spotting questionable behavior from the application that seems to be copying the contents of clipboards with every keystroke. On Thursday, a user called out LinkedIn in a tweet. The user stated that LinkedIn’s iPad application was copying contents from other sources like the notes application.

Berger stated in the tweet that the company would follow up after the fix is live in the LinkedIn application.

Last week, the popular short-video app, TikTok, was also called out for similar behavior. The TikTok app seemed to be repeatedly reading clipboard contents as a person typed. This led to a concern that the TikTok app was spying on data from various other applications. Along with TikTok several other apps found to do the same.

According to TikTok, this behavior was part of an ‘anti-spam’ feature, and the company also announced that it would discontinue this practice. It seems that iOS 14 will help us to discover this type of behavior in other applications too. A public beta of iOS 14 is expected to be rolled out in the upcoming few weeks. We may learn of other applications with similar clipboard copying behaviors that are discomforting for several users.

According to insights users became active by 59% as they need to keep themselves updated with the current situation of the pandemic.

According to insights from US region, the users accelerated to 104% from January to April. No other sector or area has been counted with this rate of increase. Moreover, from January to April the downloads gushed to 53%. The US ascended 69% in daily sessions in regions like Europe, the Middle East, Africa whereas Japan received a rise of 44%.

The situation continued till May and then a slight recession was notice. However, in April, the downloads have been uplifted by 13%. In April to May, the US suffered a little recession by 8%

Although this pandemic is giving a tough time in every sector and industry. But the increase in downloads and users is very beneficial to the media industry. Due to the lockdown, there is no or very little revenue generated by the advertisements. However, the news app needs a balance between news and entertainment sections. This is because some people are there for news and updates and few people are there for entertainment news or updates regarding their interests.

According to insights provided by NYT, the news company had to face a 50% to 55% loss last year. The company survived and brought up 587K online subscriptions and earned 5.8 million. The income produced by written news is better than printed ads. This is because well-known platforms like Google, Facebook, Amazon has a huge chunk in business share.

According to another recent report, there has been a huge gain of 105% in users and a 70% increase in downloads as compared to last year's records. Gaming apps are also active since people have nothing for their entertainment. In the last week of March game apps usage increased to 132%. Twitter is Testing Collaborative Fleet To Give Users More Reasons To Stay on Its Platform

After every platform accepting the need for stories, Twitter comes up with a new feature update, under the name of Fleet. It hasn’t been launched for all users, yet. But it looks like Twitter is planning to bring something new in the market. In simpler words, the fleet is another version of stories. According to a screenshot shared by Amrith Shanbhag, Twitter is planning introduce collaborative fleets. Under collaborative fleets; two merged fleets would be available by two different users. A double bubble would appear indicating that is a collaborate fleet. Once you tap on the fleet, you’ll see a collaborate fleet.

Although very little information regarding fleet update has been shared, hence it is difficult to say what exactly it would be. Still, it would promote sharing stories, interviews, real-time events, conversation, gifs war, and a lot more.

Originally, this story trend began from Snapchat in 2013. Before Snapchat, the feature was used by Instagram, but it gains popularity after Snapchat. Then other social media platforms tried to adapt the trend and they were successful in it. Whatsapp, Facebook, Messenger, LinkedIn and YouTube are also following the story trend. However, Facebook, Messenger, and Whatsapp don’t offer dual or collaborative stories. Instagram offers a dual story when both users are live together.

The Twitter feature fleet is currently being tested in Brazil. Twitter stated in a blog that the feature Fleet is the same as stories. Like stories, it would also disappear after 24 hours. People who are not comfortable in sharing tweets can use the fleet feature. The feature is for casual sharing. A user can post a quote or a famous saying. It can be used to share a random thought or what’s in your mind.

Twitter is a social network used by many well-known personalities for staying in touch with their followers. This app has almost 166 million daily active users. This platform has been used by almost every age group to share their opinions. It gives a newsroom feel since the opinion shared is very concise and short. Other social media platforms also do the same job but Twitter is specifically known for its micro-blogging nature. Recently Twitter came up with an update to filter unwanted messages, which was a great idea.

The fleet feature is still in testing mode and hasn’t launched out completely. But this seems to be a very interesting step taken by Twitter. People are waiting for this feature to roll out. Of course, it would be fun.

Google Is Becoming More Aggressive With YouTube Search Result Ads

Are you tired of the YouTube ads and finding small hacks to get rid of them? Then there is another surprise coming your way, which might also make things a bit difficult for you, as YouTube has recently become more aggressive with advertisements by making them appear more in search results and video recommendations as well.

With effect from the past two weeks, our team kept a keen eye on how YouTube has started to fill up search results with ads (for some particular terms) rather than showing up anything organic or meaningful.

In an experiment, we tried to find results for “solar electricity for home” both on mobile and desktop devices and just as expected, the Google-owned video hosting platform focused on showing a number of businesses that were offering the product/services rather than putting up more meaningful videos from consumers and creators related to the term.

Another instance of YouTube ads bomb can be observed in keywords related to online courses.

According to reports emerging from eMarketer, Google is about to face a decline in its ad revenue for the first time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hence, this move seems pretty obvious as with YouTube, the company now wants to give more leverage and space to advertisers so that they can compete on the largest video sharing platform with ease.

Nevertheless, while businesses may love this new step being taken by YouTube, but we are sure viewers are definitely going to get more disturbed.

Matt Navarra broke out this news on his Twitter account regarding Facebook update regarding group file. Matt Navarra is a social media consultant, tipster, and leaker. This new update will let the users search files more easily. A user can search files by name, last modified or alphabetically. Not only this, but a user can sort the files too. This new feature can be very beneficial in keeping the files sorted and handy. Before the update, it was very annoying to get to the desired file. But since the update has been rolled out, people are enjoying this handy way of reaching to files. This update has been rolled out for desktop users only.

The second news that Navarra shared is related to Facebook enabling badges for the groups. Building a community at Facebook through groups is been a trend for a while. Facebook has enabled badges in the group. These Badges play an important role by identifying the moderator and the admin of the group. Moreover, it has a broad range of badges on the list. For example, a group member who is very active in the group will get a badge of the Conversation Booster. Moreover, a member who has just joined the group will get a badge of New Member. It means giving a warm welcome to the new member.

This helps in increasing group engagement among the members. Every member becomes active when they want to earn a badge. This badge appears right after the name of the user. To find the badges (in classic layout), go to "Edit group settings" and then select Badges. Here you can enable or disable group badges for all members.

Facebook is the biggest social network, connecting people through its platform worldwide. It is an invention of a student of Harvard University, Mark Zuckerberg along with his fellows. It all started to keep the university group in touch. But later, due to modernizing technology, they expanded the membership worldwide. The above mentioned group updates were made to give a new experience to closely-connected communities and users.

In A New Video, YouTube Highlights How Its Algorithm Factors CTR And AVD Into Video Recommendation

$

Google-owned YouTube has sought to answer some common algorithm queries while highlighting specific content to people, and why video metrics may not always indicate performance. A new video was posted on the Creator Insider channel in which YouTube employees explained the impact of average viewer duration (AVD) and click-through rate (CTR). Product managers at YouTube, Rachel, and Patricia, also focused on how YouTube’s algorithm factors CTR and AVD into video discovery as well as performance.

The company also recently outlined the upcoming YouTube analytics insights display, which will display content creators their AVD and CTR. However, the company notes that it is not always reflective.

According to YouTube, CTR is a tricky metric to understand, and several creators may note that their most successful videos are most likely to have the lowest CTR. This is because YouTube displays high distribution videos to a much broader audience, which indicates that your content will be displayed to several users who are unfamiliar with your channel.

In comparison, some smaller videos being displayed to a relevant small targeted audience may have high CTR. So, this indicates that there will be a discrepancy between performance when your click-through rate is low on high-performing videos.

However, it can make it challenging for you to measure your overall performance, and the company suggests that content creators may take into account all of the metrics available to them. Creators are also concerned about the effect of lower average view time that results from external links, which may also impact distribution and reach in the algorithm.

The company has also addressed this concern and stated that in discovery, YouTube look at how a clip performs in the context it is displayed. As per YouTube, the impact of lower AVD is one of the factors that influence what is shown in the home feed of a user.

The new analytics display filters out AVD and CTR for Home as well as Watch Next. Creators also think that YouTube’s algorithm unfairly compares AVD for clips of different lengths, the platform has also addressed this concern. In discovery, YouTube looks at relative as well as absolute watch time.

You may also see that the CTR, as well as AVD of a video, are good, but it still underperforms. YouTube states that several other factors influence how many impressions a video gets, and how many viewers watch it. You should also keep in mind the competition, topic interest, and seasonality. YouTube is also developing new tools to offer more insight and help creators maximize views on their videos.

Chrome Is Going To Be 64-Bits App Very Soon, Although It Is Already Available To Some Android Users

A few years back, Apple decided to remove all 32-bit apps from their app stores. Now it’s time for Android users to celebrate. Google announces that soon it is releasing a 64-bit Chrome for its android users. Not having 64-bit Chrome can cause many problems and security issues.

Chromium Bugs Tracker confirms that Chrome Dev and Chrome Canary (release 85 and 86) are 64-bit apps. On the other hand, current stable and beta builds (83 and 84 version respectively) are still 32-bit apps.

If you haven’t experienced the Chrome 85 version, then keep your fingers crossed and stay tuned. This new update is going to be a hit, wait until it becomes stable launches officially.

If we compare Octane 2.0 benchmarks, we’ll see a 64-bit version performing better then a 32-bits version. However, there might be some other aspects that make it Chrome 85 version better than Chrome 83 version. However, the researcher claims that there are still some enhancements.

Some users claim that they are already using a 64-bit version of Chrome Beta 84. This is probably a test version for a few specific devices. The test users must be the Samsung or OnePlus phone users, however, a Pixel 4 XL user is also among the testers of the 64-bit version.

Talking about Android 10, only 8% of people were the users of version OS. The response on 64-bit release a not an enormous one but we can have patience as it’s just a start.

Google is working on its Play Store apps to make them 64-bit by 1st August 2021. This is for the users who are not willing to install the undeveloped versions of Chrome or the developer doesn’t have to wait for too long.

On the other hand, iOS launched the support for 32-bit apps in 2017. For this reason, Apple has full control over software and hardware distribution.

The new launch is going to be a great hit for users. Google has been always working to provide a better experience to its users. Android users are all set to enjoy the new update of the software. The new update is not too far. Let’s see how will it come out and how’d people are going to react. As the company said that all 64-bit updated variants will be available till August 2021. On the other hand, Chrome 85 is planned to launch in 2020 August, hence august 2021 is not so far.

Apple has been known for its brand image. Although being one of the most expensive gadgets company, people still wish to have Apple products. Known of its best security and privacy updates, users are always attracted to it. However, due to one new update, Apple is being criticized by well-known European digital companies and famous social media platforms including Facebook.

Apple last week disclosed that now Apple iPhone and iPad will need an app to enable a kind of tracking in the phone before showing up any pop-up ads.

For this reason platform like Facebook, digital companies, and 16 other marketing associations disagrees on the new update, reports Reuters. European privacy rules have been strongly condemning the new update. The opposition party believes that Apple is not sticking to basic privacy rules. This is because according to them, this new update of asking for permission twice can be more annoying for the users, hence increasing the chances of refusal for the ad.

American based app Facebook and Google are known as the vastest platform that analyze the interests and wants of their users and show them ads related to their needs.

Apple further stated that this new feature will give a clear image to its users on how their information is being used. It further stated that developers are allowed to add several screens by their wish in advance to clarify why additional permissions are required. The request message would ask for permissions to track apps and websites that a user visit and latter gives an explanation that why developers are asking for such permissions.

However, European digital marketers believe that this permission access update can increase the chances of refusal by the user. On the other hand, Apple engineers also explained that they are working on a tool that will use anonymous comprehensive data to analyze the activity of advertising campaigns.

Apple is trying to encourage more transparency practices, but developers fear that smartphone users may face irritation with new data permissions.

Apple has always received a positive response from its users. Apple is also planning to launch a digital identity system, in which you don’t need to carry a passport while traveling. People are eagerly waiting for the launch. On the other hand, this new update of asking for permission has caused a little chaos in the town.

Study: Instagram Stories Are Reaching More People

Conviva recently published its third yearly Instagram Stories Benchmark Report. The report, as usual, was concerned with examining user engagement insights related to Instagram Stories falling into four categories i.e. brands, entertainment, media, and sports.

Over 920 authentic Instagram accounts and over 28K Instagram-Stories uploaded on the media-sharing service in Q1 2020 were studied by Conviva. These results were then compared to their 2019 counterpart.

It was revealed that accounts dedicated to posting “sports” content secured the highest Story completion rate (90 percent). On the other hand, the most improvement in this sector was recorded by the “entertainment” category, which went up from 81 percent to 88 percent in a matter of a year.
Stickers have become an integral part of Instagram Stories as Instagram rolled out new sticker functionality at a rapid pace in 2020.
Another interesting finding from Conviva’s study was that the average count of Stories uploaded on a weekly basis declined across all four categories this year. Moreover, on an average, the number of frames per Story also declined across every single category excluding “Brands”, which recorded an average increase from 5.2 to 5.5 frames per Story.
"Accounts with under 50k followers have very similar reach rates, however, reach rate declines significantly for accounts that have higher than 50k followers as they continue to grow."

Conviva also discovered that the average reach rate, taking all four categories into account, went up from 6.7 percent to 7 percent over the span of a year. While “media” witnessed a 1.1 percent decline in its average reach rate, the other three categories recorded impressive year-to-year increases in the same.

Reddit Will Soon Roll Out A Fix For A Code That Causes Its iOS App To Read Clipboard Data

A new privacy feature in Apple's iOS 14 has exposed several apps copying clipboard data. Now, it was discovered that the Reddit iOS app was also reading the content on the clipboards of users. According to Reddit, the company is rolling out a fix for a piece of code that caused this behavior in its iOS app.

Some users in the beta version of iOS 14 have reported that they are receiving alerts with every keystroke in the Reddit iOS application. The beta version of iOS 14 sends an alert to users if a specific application tries to read the information on the users’ clipboards.

When asked for a comment on this issue, a Reddit spokesman talked to TheVerge on the matter. In the email, he stated that the company has tracked this down to a code path in the post composer. The code path checks for URLs in the pasteboard of users, and then it recommends a post title. The post title is based on the text of the URL (Uniform Resource Locator).

He also said that the company does not store this information or send the pasteboard content. Reddit has removed this code and the company will roll out a fix on July 14 of this year. A Twitter user named Donald Morton posted a video in one of his tweets stating that Reddit is reading the clipboard data with every keystroke.

Around four months ago, iPhone developers raised concerns about this copying behavior. Tommy Mysk and Talal Haj Bakry, two iPhone developers noted that several applications were copying clipboard contents. The privacy feature in iOS 14 that is exposing this type of behavior in several apps is still in a limited beta for developers. In the past few weeks, the feature has revealed several apps engaging in clipboard-copying including TikTok and LinkedIn.

On 3rd July, LinkedIn stated that the company will stop this practice, and explained that LinkedIn’s iOS app was copying clipboard information to perform an ‘equality check’ between what a person types and what is in their clipboard. Erran Berger, an engineering VP at LinkedIn explained in a tweet that the company does not store or transmit data on a user’s clipboard.

In the past, TikTok has also faced criticism for privacy concerns on its application, and last week, it was called out for similar behavior. TikTok explained that it was part of an ‘anti-spam’ feature. The company is discontinuing this practice. It is expected that a public beta of iOS 14 will be released in the upcoming few weeks and it may expose more applications engaged in this practice.

How Old is the World’s First Video Phone? The Answer Might Shock You

$
0
0
If you think about technology such as video calling, you might just end up assuming that this is a fairly new form of tech and a big part of the reason why that is the case has to do with the fact that it has only become widespread in recent years.

However, it is important to note that the concept of video calling is actually a lot older than that, and the first ever example of video phone technology just turned half a century old which indicates that it is not quite as new as you might have initially thought it was!

Because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up changing the way that people communicate with each other, US telecom service provider AT&T started experimenting with ways in which video calling could be facilitated in the late 60s.

By attempting to combine the technologies of telephones and TVs, AT&T envisioned a network of video phones that would be facilitated through phone lines since this was the only technology available at the time as the modern internet was still decades away.

All told, AT&T ended up spending half a billion dollars trying to set up the network and launched their product with the first public demonstration of it which involved a black and white video phone conversation set up between then Mayor of Pittsburgh Pete Flaherty and prominent Pittsburgh businessman John Harper.

This public demonstration occurred on the 30th of June in the year 1970, which makes it seem like ancient history now. The demonstration certainly generated a lot of buzz, and AT&T planned to execute their video phone network as soon as possible hoping to a million units in a decade.

While this technology was certainly quite revolutionary for the time, the fact of the matter is that it didn’t manage to sell all that well at all and the reason behind this is that it faced a lot of roadblocks. One really problematic aspect of the feature was the price.

It would have cost a thousand dollars per month in modern day currency for each consumer to use it, and to top all of that off customers would have to pay a tariff rate per each minute of conversation which made it so expensive that only the richest members of society would have been able to afford it.

This was an issue because of the fact that it was marketed as being a consumer good that everyone would be able to use, and when this was proven to not quite be the case people did not want to buy it all that much.

Another problem was that there was no vanity box in the video display that would allow people to see how they looked on camera, and this made it so that people were unwilling to try it out since they were concerned that they might not end up looking their best at the end of the day.

Perhaps the single biggest issue was that the technology was a little too far ahead of its time due to the reason that it required the usage of too much infrastructure to be properly functional. As a result of the fact that this was the case, when AT&T saw a shakeup in their management and got a new CEO, the project was shelved and no one spoke of it again for a while.

In spite of the fact that this attempt by AT&T ended up being a costly failure, it paved the way for Apple and General Magic to experiment with the tech in the 90s and eventually resulted in the tech becoming widespread in the 21st century.

Best at: Design and code of the frontend of web apps and emails

Marketing goals: It provides the best user experience through the best interfaces and conducts AB tests without relying only on the development team.

Difficulty level: 2/10

HTML will tell the web browser how it should display and define the content. With regard to content marketing, it is essential to understand how to find and edit meta descriptions, title tags, and keywords.

If the software you use to download content does not have a Markdown or WYSIWYG interface, it is useful to learn how to create hyperlinks, headers, paragraphs and spacing, images, and lists (and to consider updating them) for proper formatting.

If you want to design and encode a web application or email frontend, you need to use HTML and CSS. HTML structures the website and contains data for its content, while CSS polishes things with style to make them more beautiful.

With various existing tools, you can easily enjoy creating an interactive little game or mobile app.

How HTML Solves Real-World Marketing Problems

HTML5 Enables Us To Define The INTENT Of Our Content.

We cannot only define what the content element on the page means (i.e., the content element is a paragraph, a header, or a link to an external resource), but this allows us to define our purpose content.

Computers by nature do not know the difference between an "About Us" page and a blog post, or a blog post and the content list related to that blog post. However, with HTML5, we can give computers hints. For example:
  • The element `<article>` is used to indicate content that does not depend on the surrounding content and is intended for independent distribution (think article or blog post).
  • Element `<aside>` is used to specify content that is tangentially related to the main content (think recent or related blog postg).
  • The `<nav>` element is used to specify a group of links that are used to navigate the site, as opposed to links to resources that support content.

HTML Helps To Introduce Beginners To The Programming World

Besides its global scope, it is used on a personal note. HTML is the main programming framework. It is the easiest way to get to know the concepts of how to write code.

Each language is different, but the more you know about programming concepts, the easier it is to learn new languages. It is much easier to learn a language like C or C++ after learning the main languages. This method is much better than just jumping into a complicated language from your head.

Most of the programming languages are useful. HTML is necessary because of its web application. HTML also helps introduce newcomers to the world of programming.

It helps people not to take too big a first step and then leave. HTML has many applications, which makes it a fundamental programming language in our world.

SQL

It is best known for data analysis, quick and simple data queries—even on multi-million-line datasets, joining data tables efficiently.

Marketing goals: running advanced queries on Google Analytics data, accessing in-depth user data from your company's database, etc.

Difficulty level: 3/10

SQL is a programming language designed to help manage data stored in the relational database management system. They have a data definition, manipulation, and control languages.

As a marketer, you will use the language of manipulation or query. Excel (or LibreOffice Calc) is a spreadsheet program with data manipulation. Their use may require you to learn VBA or Python to run macros, which are rules that define how the input sequence should be mapped to a substitute output sequence.

It is a good idea to learn how to manipulate data in at least one of them. Learn how to query SQL, or if it is just too heavy text for you, macros. However, SQL can handle more data and more complex queries.

You will start to follow the data collection process more closely and develop basic skills when you begin to learn data analysis. It means that by involving developers in the analysis, you will be able to ask what you desire to know and save both of them from spending most of your budget on data cleansing.

Having basic skills also makes it easier to write a report, as you don't have to wait for a developer to answer initial questions. You can extract raw data from sales data, marketing automation, and analysis tools and get started.

How SQL Can Solve Real-World Marketing Issues

Create More Detailed And Accurate Reports

A former colleague was an EMS guru with zero background coding. Many years ago, he was constantly confronted with data discrepancies between Google Ads, Google Analytics, and internal company reports - sometimes over 10%.

He didn't know which report would be the best guide for his next step. (Anyone who works with PPC tools must have faced the same issue at least once). He also didn't fully understand how internal reports were built, and the developers, as usual, had a more significant project than help in debugging them.

One day he got so irritated that he decided to study SQL himself. In less than two days, he got the necessary knowledge. (In this time almost anyone can reach an intermediate level in SQL).

After that, he could easily poll the company database and find errors. He was also able to build more detailed and accurate reports because he had coding skills in business knowledge.

Using Google Analytics Data, You Can Create Refined Segments

Digital analysts should also be aware that BigQuery, a Google product, allows you to use SQL to manage Google Analytics data.

For example, you can join various Google Analytics tables to generate reports that are not possible in the point-to-click interface of Google Analytics. Other cases include various, data-heavy tasks such as querying metadata from 1 billion taxi rides or internal monitoring analytics for real-time fraud detection.

The standard Google Analytics user interface allows primary and secondary measurements to be used to create micro-segments. For example, by viewing the number of sessions by target page and source.

However, if you know SQL, you can further segment Google Analytics data by adding a third and fourth dimension (location and device type).

Also, you can add advanced filters (e.g., counting only 20% of the most active users) and run advanced calculations (e.g., using median instead of average).

JavaScript

It is best known for implementing tracking codes and every kind of web-development solution.

Marketing goals: improving accuracy or granularity of tracking for better data quality

Difficulty Level: 8/10

JavaScript is one of the most commonly used programming languages in web development (besides HTML and CSS). If something pops up, animates, automatically scrolls, sparks, or changes, it's most likely written in JavaScript.

However, for digital marketers and CRO professionals, it's even more important to know that almost all tracking codes are written in JavaScript.

The Google Tag Manager container and most tracking fragments use JavaScript. This piece of code used to implement the Google Tag Manager is written in JavaScript. Also, the code snippets for Google Analytics, Hotjar, Crazy Egg, Facebook, Reddit, Google Ads, DoubleClick, and many other tools.

To embed these tracking codes on your website, you don't need to know much about JavaScript; most tools have simplified the process before copying and pasting. However, basic JavaScript knowledge can ensure proper implementation to set up advanced tracking like depth of scroll or cross-domain tracking.

With more advanced JavaScript applications, you can automate repetitive tasks in Google Ads, transfer UTM settings between different websites, and take advantage of many other features.

JavaScript is more complicated than SQL. It can take several weeks, 1-2 hours per day, to build a solid foundation. However, it is more than enough to understand and modify your tracking scripts, simplify automation, and improve communication with developers.

How JavaScript Solves Real-World Marketing Problems

Connect Inventory With Ad Campaigns

One e-commerce company had over 100,000 products. They were continually adding new products, stopping old products, running out of stock, or filling their warehouses with bestsellers.

The business was so complicated that their advertising couldn't keep up with the times. Therefore, they had to start and stop Google Ads campaigns every minute, but it was impossible to do it manually.

So one of their marketing apprentices started learning JavaScript with a good web team mentor. In about a month of training and practice, he set up JavaScript automation, which transmitted information between the company's database and Google Ads.

After that, campaigns started and stopped automatically based on the company's inventory data. It saved their team countless hours of work, reduced the number of human errors, and saved advertising costs. They no longer spend money to promote sales of sold or discontinued products.

Enables Robust A/B Testing

JavaScript also plays a vital role in conversion optimization. jQuery, a JavaScript library, supports HTML/CSS changes for A/B testing.

Marketers without jQuery skills rely on visual editors of test tools to develop and publish A/B tests, often with poor results.

Their lack of coding skills limits their ability to test what matters or overly ambitious changes can break the site.

Python

Best at: predictive analytics, machine learning, and APIs.

Marketing goals: running advanced analytical methods on datasets and making predictions to guide future planning

Difficulty: 7/10

Python is a popular language for scientists studying data. In many aspects, it is similar to JavaScript. (The two languages have roughly the same level of complexity.) Even the syntax looks identical.

The big difference, however, is that Python is designed primarily for "internal" and analytical tasks, rather than for "front" tasks (e.g., website development).

From an analyst's point of view, the most significant advantage of Python is the many extensions to the analytics explicitly written for data and science tasks. You are likely to work with Python if you want to perform predictive analysis or a machine learning project.

Also, many popular digital analytics and marketing tools offer access to an API. (A quick, non-technical explanation of the API is available here.)

How Python Solves Real-World Marketing Problems

A few recent projects come to mind:
  • In many startups, Python has been used to predict whether users will cancel their subscriptions shortly. Then, they were proactively approached.
  • For a larger company, Python has been used to estimate the expected increase in helpdesk tickets and planned to hire them quarterly.
  • In a very small company, Python has been used to automatically scrape huge text walls and automatically analyze media references.
You can carry out such projects using Google Analytics, Google Ads, or any internal company data if you know Python. I would recommend starting with a few weeks (1-2 hours per day) to learn and practice the syntax and learn about its marketing-oriented extensions.

The realistic goal is to launch your first (simpler) predictive analytics project on Python at the end of the month.

However, you shouldn't expect to become a senior developer on Python from one week to another. Still, at least you will be able to communicate with the developers much more effectively.

Besides, if you have already learned JavaScript, it should be easier to master Python.

Note: You may have heard of another popular language, similar to Python, called R. It is used mainly by mathematicians and statisticians. Its syntax is a bit harder to learn than Python.

For this and other reasons, Python is recommended over R for digital analysts and CRO specialists. However, some "hardcore" statistical packages are only available in R.

To Sum Up

For a digital marketing professional, it is now beneficial to understand the use of different programming languages and the complexity of various tasks. It is also necessary to understand, for example, API and multivariate testing capabilities.

You may end up being hired in a small or medium-sized company for positions you are not aware of.

If you have a better understanding of how a bluffer talks, you can make better hiring decisions. You will know if something cannot be done or is just incompetent because you will be able to ask the right questions. It will also be easier to explain to stakeholders and technologists why you should make decisions.

A marketer who at least understands the terminology will be able to communicate better and therefore make more useful suggestions about web strategy.

Bill Gates attributes his success to this valuable lesson that he learned from Warren Buffett's life

Bill Gates and Warren Buffett share an exemplary friendship that has been going strong for nearly 30 years now. Moreover, Gates never hesitates before hailing Buffett as a teacher whose remarkable wisdom has had a huge role to play in the life of the Microsoft co-founder.

Although there’s plenty of lessons one could learn from the life of the Oracle of Omaha, one that Bill Gates religiously follows (and is fascinated by) is realizing the importance of time. Gates has even said that following this lesson has contributed to his success.

As per gates, no amount of money could be used to buy more time. The second richest person in the world stated that there are only 24 hours in everyone’s day and this is something that Warren realizes and thus, avoids getting busy in useless stuff.

Bill Gates added that Buffett has his priorities set and this allows the latter to spend considerable time with his close advisors and the people he cares about.

Effective time management requires one to put their mind on what’s important for them and the company they are working for, and prevent distracting thoughts from renting space in their head. Whatever you do during your day, always make sure to ask yourself if the task in question is worth spending time on.

Billionaires such as Gates and Buffett make sure to spend their entire day doing things that matter the most. This involves solely focusing on the “one thing” that they are doing at a given time and allocate the right time to the same.

Given below are some helpful tips that may help you achieve tunnel vision to dedicate your full attention to the thing you are doing at a given point in time.

1- Practice a Set Routine

Once you sit at your desk and are ready to start working, make sure to allocate the first 30-60 minutes to plan what you need to do during the entire day to maximize productivity and how much time should each task be given. This should remain your first priority. Starting the day by checking emails or client’s messages will definitely prevent you from achieving more in less time.

2. Don’t Complicate Things

“Focus only on your end goal” is a simple approach that requires one to dedicate their time and effort to what matters to them. On the contrary, making things complicated by entertaining useless and complex ideas may get you off-track. So, instead of surrendering to distracting and complicated thoughts, bring simplicity to your life and add rhythm to your workflow on a daily basis.

3. It’s Okay to Say “No”

As per a study conducted by Morten Hansen, author of “Great at Work: How Top Performers Do Less, Work Better, and Achieve More" and a UC Berkeley professor, mastering the art of saying “no” enables one to reduce their obligations and achieve remarkable focus. On the other hand, not being able to say no may lead one down to a path filled with fatigue and stress, which may impact their mental health as a result.

Almost 8 in 10 of employees do not post what they want on social media due to fear of judgment by colleagues

It is a challenge for employees to keep their professional and personal lives, as most of the workplace is connected online. Conflicted feelings are common as people can't post what they want online as they are afraid that they will be subject to judgment by their colleagues.

People’s opinions about the workplace have changed during the lockdown and they are more critical of work processes and how they are able to collaborate over social networks.

Igloo Software, has discovered data on how employees feel about the use of social media when it comes to being connected to their colleagues and how it impacts what they post.

Igloo polled over two thousand employees in organizations and over five thousand staff across industry sectors ranging from entry-level employees to C-suite roles.

The Coronavirus lockdown has forced people all over the world to stay at home and adapt to this unique lifestyle. However, the polls showed that one in every three employees, which means thirty-three percent, did not work from home at all and almost one in twelve employees, which amounts to 8 percent of all employees, work from home full time.

However, most workers, eighty-two percent, want to return to an office-based workplace rather than work remotely as most, seventy-nine percent, have experienced difficulties that in-office workers did not experience.

These problems ranged from not being informed about policy changes to not being able to attend meetings or being left out of discussions, meetings, and brainstorms. These processes are vital for an employee to give their best and increase their chances of being promoted and gaining success. Others experienced different difficulties like not being able to access important files, people, or groups due to technical issues. While others complained that the deprivation with their colleagues affected their working potential.

Another major reason is that most offices were not prepared for this type of situation and their facilities are not equipped for online working so most offices have compromised and cut corners and this has provided employees with less than optimal working conditions increasing the feelings of frustration and this has deteriorated their motivation to give their best effort which is detrimental to, not only the office but also, to the employees own record.

Almost 8 in 10 (or 78 percent to be exact) of surveyed employees, have decided to not post something for fear of being judged by their colleagues.

Beware Android Users! Google Has Banned Over 2 Dozen Apps From The Play Store To Protect You From A Serious Facebook Related Threat

Back in June, Google took over 80 apps from its Play Store only because of how the developers were infecting the devices with adware and as a result, the user’s phone was always filled with unwanted ads. But unfortunately, the threat is not over yet as the company has again discovered 25 more malware apps.

The newly spotted apps contain a serious threat, basically what these sinister apps do is steal Facebook users credential details if the they regularly open the account on their phone. This astonishing malware has been discovered by French cyber-security firm Evina and they have also confirmed that the apps offer genuine functionality in return for infecting devices.

As soon as you install one of these software, the hidden code which is usually embedded within the app then sets out to steal personal data in some really nasty ways. The malicious code first gets activated and then waits for when the user opens Facebook app to begin operations.

The malware also has the potential to mimic Facebook and overlay a web browser window, which directs you to a fake login page, as well on top of the Facebook app to distract users on a bigger level. And to top off everything, the fake login page becomes impossible to identify for any normal user due to which they enter they login details usually, which are then sent to the hackers involved later.

Furthermore, according to Lionel Ferri, Evina CTO, this malware cannot even be identified by Facebook because it appears in front as soon as the app opens.

While Google has removed all the 25 apps after confirmation from Evina but if we go by the statistics then most of the apps included in the list have been available for download for more than a year now and the worst fact is that they may together have infected 2.3 million users till date.

Here is a list of the apps that Google has removed from its apps store. In case, if you have any of the apps on your smartphone, it’s about time that you delete them immediately.

Instagram Is Developing A Feature That Will Suggest You Who To Block On The App

Most social networks usually recommend who we may want to connect on their platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram provide a list of users that we may know. However, on the contrary, Facebook-owned Instagram will soon suggest those accounts you may want to add to your block list.

It has been reported that Instagram is working on developing a new feature that will provide you a list of users that you don't want to follow. The platform will not pick random individuals and suggest you to add them to your block list, instead, the social media app (probably based on already available data along with AI) will look for users that you have already blocked on Facebook, Messenger or even Whatsapp.

If the same contacts also have an account on the Instagram app, the app will recommend you to add those people to your block list as well. The feature was spotted by a reverse engineering expert, Alessandro Paluzzi. According to Paluzzi, Instagram is still developing the new feature, and it will ostensibly be made available to people once Facebook would entirely integrate its chating app, Messenger, to the Instagram app.

Recently, the reverse engineering expert also shared a screenshot on Twitter showing that the company is working to integrate Messenger to Instagram. If the company plans to introduce the feature for public use, you will see a ‘Get Messenger in Instagram’ option in Instagram Settings. With the Messenger integration in the Instagram app, you will be able to view Messenger chats in the Instagram DM.

The company is testing these features, and we are not sure yet when Facebook will roll out these features to the general public or they will remain in development phase forever.

Google May Soon Add A Local Listing Carousel In Google Maps Footer

$

Google is always testing out new features in its apps to enhance user experience. Now, it has been seen that the company is experimenting with a new layout that displays a local listing carousel in the footer section on the Google Maps view. It will allow users to keep the local listings in view after they have clicked on a specific listing to expand its local knowledge panel.

This interesting Google Maps interface experiment was first spotted by Andy Simpson, a local search expert. Andy Simpson shared on Twitter that the company is probably testing this feature with a small set of users. According to Simpson, GMB (Google My Business) carousel is being added to Google Maps.

Google My Business is a search listing tool through which Google promote businesses information along with relevant search results. Andy Simpson stated that it worked for various locations as well as different queries. You may not be able to replicate this, however, Andy Simpson shared a GIF on Twitter showing how it works.

If you are on the test, and when you will search for something on Google Maps, you will see a local listing carousel in the footer section of the Google Maps view. Moreover, clicking on a specific pin marker will display you the local businesses in that area.

The new feature will be useful for a lot of users, and will be beneficial for local companies as well. You can check your Google Maps if you are on the test or not. Google has not yet confirmed whether the company is working on this feature or not.

Unfortunately, we are not yet sure when the feature will be rolled out for general public, or if the company will ever introduce this functionality for all users. However, we can surely say that it will be an interesting way to keep the local listings in view after you have clicked on a specific listing to expand its local knowledge panel.
