Google announces the launch date of Google Currents in the place of Google Plus, and it is going to provide far greater benefits to the users than before

Google shut down its social network, Google+ (AKA G Plus) on 2nd April 2019. But for enterprise communication to continue, Google has announced another tool in place of Google+, called ‘Google Currents’.

In an email to the G Suite administrators, Google has mentioned that ‘Currents’ is going to launch on 6th July 2020. All the users that were on Google+ will be transferred to Currents. It is like a rebranded version of Google+, but with a more updated look and feel, along with providing additional benefits through some extra features, content moderation, and some administrative privileges.

‘Currents’ has been in the beta testing phase for a couple of months, and now that it will roll out on 6th July 2020, people are excited about the interesting features that it is going to provide. According to Google’s claims, Currents is for people who want to stay updated about the current issues, and they like to discuss them with others. It is also going to help people engage more efficiently with their colleagues and employees.
"The new Currents mobile app will replace the Google+ iOS and Android mobile apps, which will no longer be supported. After July 6, 2020, it will not be possible to opt out of Currents or revert back to Google+.", announced The G Suite Team in an email to its users.
It is going to carry over the concept of ‘tags’ and ‘streams.’ These features will allow leaders and employees to exchange meaningful discussions and ideas across the organization while enabling them to gather valuable input and positive or negative feedback from other people. This will not only make the whole exchange and conversion effective and fast; it will also not flood the inboxes with company messages and emails. So, that is a huge plus!

The user interface and experience will mostly remain unaffected and unchanged with a home stream ordered by chronology or relevance, and the posts from a company’s bosses will be given priority.

It will also allow the sharing of polls, texts, links, images, videos, and any other content saved in Google Drive too.

This is how admins and leadership will be able to make the discussions across the organization effective by creating targeted custom streams to promote a particular content to a specific set of employees, or if they choose, to the entire company even.

Another interesting feature is that the admins can use metrics to measure engagement across the organization platform, and they will be able to track the usage and even grasp the content which becomes popular across the organization for whatever reason.

Once Currents is launched, as mentioned above, all the Google+ users will be automatically transferred to Currents, and the complete features of Currents will be available to them in five days.

All the existing plus.google.com links will work but they will redirect to currents.google.com URLs.

For Android and iOS, an update to Google+ will introduce its newly launched rebranded version, Currents.

Google Makes Using Hardware 2FA Keys on iOS a Lot Easier

$

If you are truly worried about the kind of security that you have when it comes to your various accounts you can get a hardware two factor authentication (2FA) key. Basically when you pair a hardware 2FA key with any device you are going to only be able to access that device or that account if you put in said key, and until and unless you put this key in it seems absolutely unlikely that access to the account or device in question would in any way be possible.

This can be a bit of a problem if you are trying to access a Google account using a 2FA hardware key on an Apple device. A big part of the reason why that is the case has to do with the fact that there is a Smart Lock app that you would have to generally go through and using this app would make it quite difficult to make a hardware 2FA feasible in any way, shape or form. Luckily, Google has announced that it will be making this sort of thing a great deal easier, something that is going to make a lot of people that use Google accounts on iOS devices breathe a sigh of relief to a certain extent.

Security keys for the latest version of iOS will gradually be rolled out until a point comes where interfacing with Apple software will become easier than ever before. It should be noted that while Apple often refers to itself as a real trailblazer when it comes to security associated with tech and the like, the company has made it unnecessarily difficult to use hardware security keys, and this is the sort of thing that will have to change for the company moving forward otherwise people might start switching to other products that are easier to deal with.

Dropbox Rolled Out A New Password Manager App

$

0
Dropbox, an online data storage company has rolled out a private beta version of a new password manager app. An invite-only version of the Dropbox Passwords application has been published to the Google Play Store.

It seems that the new app provides standard password managing tools such as a feature that will provide the ability to auto-fill login credentials - username and passwords on various services/websites. Features including the generation of a strong password and synchronization of passwords across various devices are also offered by the Dropbox Passwords app.

The description of this application states that the credentials of a user are stored with zero-knowledge encryption so the passwords can only be accessed by the user. This will help to protect the password of the app’s users from hackers. It is not yet clear whether users will be required a separate username and a master password for the Dropbox Passwords app. Or users would be able to log in with the same username and password they use to access their Dropbox accounts.

But, considering that millions of individuals use Dropbox to save as well as synchronize their files, some users might feel that storing passwords in Dropbox Passwords is like putting a lot of eggs in the same basket. It appears that users will have to likely use the same username and password for the Dropbox Passwords app. If users will be using the same login credentials for the app, then Dropbox provides a range of two-factor authentication methods. These methods boost the security of your account.

Currently, users are able to enable two-factor authentication through their smartphone or enabling the feature requires users to plug a physical USB security key into the USB port if they wish to log in on a different device. You can use the codes sent via SMS Messages for enabling the feature or you can also enable two-factor authentication through an app.

Dropbox introduced these methods back in the year 2012 when the company experienced a huge data breach. The data breach exposed the stored login credentials of around 68 million users of the service. These credentials were then traded online. That enormous data breach did not come to light until after four years when the company enforced the users to reset their passwords whose login credentials may have been exposed.

Now, the company cannot afford another breach of user credentials if Dropbox wants to be the safe-keeper of your login credentials for each of your online accounts. According to Graham Cluley, an independent security analyst, the online storage company should consider to make 2FA necessary for all the users of the Dropbox Passwords. He stated that it will be the best practice and it will convey a message to the users of Dropbox that they think two-factor authentication is beneficial for each online account.

We are not yet sure whether the Dropbox Passwords app will be made available to all users or the company will make the service available only for paid subscribers. However, the app will likely be made available to paying subscribers as one of the screenshots of the app states ‘Premium App.’ Currently, the beta of this app is only accessible to selected users of the Dropbox.

After Facing Criticism From Employees, Mark Zuckerberg Stated That Facebook Will Review Content Policies

The social media giant, Facebook had to face criticism from employees after the company decided to leave up controversial posts from the United States President, Donald Trump. Now, Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg stated that Facebook will review content policies.

According to Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook is planning to review content policies on posts that seem to be promoting or threatening state use of force or taxpayer suppression techniques. Zuckerberg also wrote on Facebook that the company will also look into the option to label or flag content that seems to be violating Facebook policies. He stated that the company will only flag or label those posts that are violating the company’s policies but they should not be removed completely from Facebook’s platform.

The CEO also pledged to study the company’s review structure. He will study Facebook’s review structure to ensure that the right voices and groups are at the table. Zuckerberg also wrote in his lengthy post that while Facebook continues to give people a voice and right of free expression during these crises, Zuckerberg is also committed to making sure that Facebook fights for voter engagement as well as racial justice.

The company has been under pressure since Facebook decided to leave a post from Donald Trump that states ‘When the looting starts, the shooting starts.’ Facebook made the decision this week in reference to protesters in Minneapolis. After the company denied to remove Trump’s post, thousands of former employees as well as employees currently working for the company, urged the CEO to remove his post. It has also been reported that some employees even staged a virtual walkout to protest Zuckerberg’s decision. The pressure on the company increased when Snapchat announced to stop promoting Donald Trump’s account in the Discover section of the Snapchat app. It was also seen that Twitter demoted and placed a more strong warning on similar content.

According to the Washington Post, around 5,500 Facebook employees voted in an internal poll to ask the Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to change Facebook’s policies around political content.

The company’s CEO announced on Friday that the company will develop extra products devoted to progressing racial justice. Facebook is also introducing a new voter hub. You can achieve vetted information from this voter hub and it is similar to what Facebook is offering for the coronavirus.

Adam Mosseri, head of Facebook-owned Instagram also states that the company will review policies to make sure that sensitive communities are being protected well across Instagram’s platform. On Friday, Adam Mosseri posted a video to Instagram, and pledged that the company will review the platform’s policies to make sure that the company is properly protecting vulnerable communities.

Facebook Has Filed a Patent for Mind Reading Smart Glasses

$

Not that long ago, Google released a product that it clearly thought was going to revolutionize the entire industry. This product was Google Glass, and it was essentially a pair of spectacles that could interface with your smartphone or other tech that you may have been using all in all. This seemed like a good idea to them at the time but the fact of the matter is that nobody really wanted to use these glasses and a big part of the reason why that is the case has to do with the fact that they were awkward and did not really provide enough functionality to make it so that they could genuinely end up being worth the fact that you would look absolutely terrible while wearing them.

Facebook seems to have failed to learn from this disaster and has been working on wearable tech of its own for quite some time now. However, there is something unique about Facebook’s smart glasses and this is the fact that it might be able to read your thoughts. If you think that this is just conjecture or is perhaps some kind of press release that Facebook gave out to generate publicity, you should know that Facebook has actually ended up filing a patent for this tech, and this patent is essentially for a pair of glasses that can recognize what is being referred to as “subvocalized speech recognition” tech.

This quite literally means that the glasses would be able to read your thoughts. It is unknown what something like this could ever be used for and it doesn’t seem likely that anyone would want to wear them especially because of the fact that wearable tech is generally not all that popular but at the end of the day it seems like Facebook is going forward with this regardless.

A study was conducted on app usage habits of kids which indicates a significant threat to the dominance of Google’s YouTube. The study found that kids now split time between YouTube and other applications such as Netflix, TikTok, and games such as Roblox.

On average, kids who are between four to fifteen years old now spend 85 minutes daily while watching videos on Google’s YouTube. In comparison, they spend 80 minutes per day watching TikTok videos.

Around 60,000 families with kids aged between four and 14 years old across the United States, United Kingdom, and Spain provided data for the annual report of Qustodio, a digital safety app maker. The study encompasses the online habits of kids from Feb 2019-Apr 2020. The research also takes into account the impacts of the coronavirus crisis and especially focuses on four major categories of smartphone apps - video games, education, social media platforms, online video.

YouTube is the most-used application among kids, and they are watching twice as many videos daily as kids watched 4 years ago. YouTube app is meant to be used by people who are 13 years or older, however, the age gate was never properly implemented. This lead to a fine of $170 million being imposed by FTC on YouTube during 2019.

Currently, 69%, 74%, and 88% of children in the US, UK, and Spain use YouTube. Meanwhile, YouTube Kids is used by 7% and 10% of children in the US and the UK. In comparison 33%, 29%, and 28% of kids in the US, the UK, and Spain watch Netflix. Children in the United States spent 86 minutes daily on YouTube in early 2020, and 88 minutes daily during 2019.

Kids in the UK and Spain spent 75 minutes and 63 minutes, respectively, per day on YouTube in early 2020, and 77 minutes and 66 minutes during 2019. The time spent increased during the lockdowns as children in the US spent 99 minutes daily on YouTube in mid-April and 95 minutes daily on TikTok during lockdowns. TikTok ranked among 5 most-download apps last year. The average time spent by kids on TikTok increased 116% to reach 82 minutes, 97% to reach 69 minutes, and 150% to reach 60 minutes in the US, the UK, and Spain respectively during May 2019 and Feb 2020. During February, 16.5%, 17.7%, and 37.7% of kids in the US, the UK, and Spain used TikTok while 20.4% and 16% of US kids used Instagram and Snapchat respectively.

17% and 15% of kids in Spain, 54% and 31% US kids, and 51% and 23% of UK kids play Roblox and Minecraft, respectively. During February, the average daily time spent on Roblox by kids in the US, the UK, and Spain was 81 minutes, 76 minutes, and 64 minutes respectively. Google Classroom is used by 65% of kids in Spain, 51% of kids in the US, and 31% of kids in the UK.

The report published by Qustodio notes that screen-time rates were already increasing before the pandemic and the coronavirus only accelerated it. The firm concluded that the increase in the usage of apps by kids may never return to normal levels.

This Dangerous Android App Has Been Downloaded Over 40 Million Times

The sheer number of dangerous or otherwise suspicious apps that are being made available through the Google Play Store really is quite concerning, and a big part of the reason why that is the case has to do with the fact that although Google has been trying quite hard to get rid of them they seem to keep coming back, so much so that now there is an app on the Play Store that has been downloaded over 40 million times which is concerning because of the fact that it is not exactly the safest app for anyone to be using at any given point in time.

The app that we are talking about is called SnapTube, and its main function is that it allows you to download videos from YouTube as well as Facebook which is the sort of feature that a lot of people are definitely going to find extremely useful. However, while this app may seem a little innocuous as if it is just providing you with the service you have requested without actually taking anything in return, it takes part in a lot of shady practices that a lot of people are most likely going to end up having some kind of problem with all in all.

According to UpStreamSystems, one way in which SnapTube is defrauding its users is that it is signing them up for premium services without their knowledge. This is the sort of thing that can make a lot of users very nervous about using any particular kind of app, but in this case it can result in a lot of financial loss as well. Estimates suggest that SnapTube has earned approximately 100 million dollars so far from its fraudulent activities in which it is basically stealing from unsuspecting users.

However, the Chinese developer of this app by the name of Mobiuspace, a developer that has some big name investors such as Tencent which is perhaps the biggest tech investor that China has right now, is claiming that the issues are the result of a third party app that their app was communicating with. Some might say that this is an excuse but others might accept it, we will just have to wait and see what Google decides to do about this app that has caused so many problems for users (Update: It appears Google has removed the app from its app store.).

Bill Gates States That Microchip Conspiracy Theory Is Stupid

$

Bill Gates during a call with news reporters on Wednesday stated that he is not involved in any microchip-type project. According to some conspiracy theories, Gates is involved in a plot to use COVID-19 vaccines for implanting tracking microchips in individuals. He informed media outlets that these theories are stupid and baseless.

Bill Gates has been warning us for years about the dangers of a global pandemic. He urged world leaders including Trump back during 2016 to take stronger steps to prepare the world for a pandemic. Gates gave a TED Talk back in the year 2015 that warned the people about the death toll of a global pandemic. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has committed $300 million to fight the coronavirus and create a vaccine.

Some particular pundits and right-wing fringe groups started to spread misleading information across various social platforms during January that Gates is behind the creation of the coronavirus and he wants to generate money from it. Gates explained that it is beneficial to know which kids have been given a measles vaccine and which kids have not, and we need systems to keep a record. However, there are no microchips involved.

Gates stated that their foundation gets money to purchase vaccines, and this is the reason he predicted the risk of a global pandemic. Zignal Labs reported the NY Times that since conspiracy theories related to the virus exploded on social platforms and TV, these theories were mentioned 1.2 million times during Feb-Apr. Yahoo News and YouGov conducted a survey in late May and found that 28% of US citizens think that these conspiracy theories are true. The survey also discovered that 50% of individuals who mainly watch Fox News and 44% Republicans considered these theories true. However, 61% who mainly watch MSNBC considered these theories false.

When the reporters asked Gates about the poll, he stated that it was a bit concerning for him. However, it did not stop governments as well as other groups around the world from funding efforts for developing a coronavirus vaccine. Gates expressed a concern that even if we are able to develop a vaccine, the anti-vaccine sentiment may make it challenging for us to reach herd immunity. Bill Gates also urged that when we are ready to manufacture coronavirus vaccines, these vaccines should be initially distributed to countries that have weaker healthcare infrastructure. He also stated that we should distribute the vaccines first to those regions where social distancing is less practical.

According to Bill Gates, the world needs to work together to create a coronavirus vaccine that is safe and effective. We should also ensure that the vaccines are made available to those who need them the most.

Beware Creators! Hackers Are Selling YouTube Channel Credentials On Dark Web

$

After all kinds of credentials that you can find on cybercrime forums, its the turn of YouTube accounts and the offers are increasing in numbers with every passing day.

Hackers are advertising the accounts on hacking forums in bulk quantity which one can buy after verifying the YouTube channel and the number of subscribers it owns. Overall, it is an attempt to expose a new audience and engage them in fraudulent activities that may also involve bigger advertising scams.

However, this isn’t the first time hackers have found value in YouTube accounts. On previous occasions, they have hijacked channels only to make the owner pay a certain amount to get the channel back. YouTube community support has always remained filled with complaints in which people have lost their YouTube accounts all of a sudden.

Researchers at an external threat intelligence company, IntSights have also found out that since the demand of YouTube credentials is high on online underground markets, companies that do data verification as a side business are also booming.

Hackers have been able to collect all of such data with the help of infected computers, phishing campaigns or logs of credentials stored with Google. Some users have also reported in their complaint that someone tried to hijack their YouTube account by tricking them into downloading malicious software.

In another story, the hacker contacted the victim with the purpose of “collaborating” for a project.

Etay Maor, IntSights’ Chief Security Officer, says that in more recent times hackers have gained immense confidence mostly because of their sophisticated phishing campaigns and their reliance on reverse proxy toolkits that successfully beats Google’s two-factor authentication.

Furthermore, no offers of 2FA coming along with the credentials may also mean that none of the hacked accounts had this security feature active.

The value of the list is directly proportional to the number of subscribers so roughly for a channel that has 200,000 subscribers the bid is of $1,000, along with a step of $200 as well. One advertised auction included 990,000 YouTube channels whose bid started from $1,500 and the one who paid $2,500 got the credentials.

There was one more bad actor who placed the ad of 25 YouTube channels having more than 100,000 subscribers and set the starting price at $600 with step of $100. He also promised to sell all the details immediately to anyone who was willing to pay $2,000.

Instagram is reviewing its Embedded Posts feature, and it will probably become necessary to seek the permission of creators before embedding their content in the future

$
0
0
If you own a website or a blog, and if you are habitual of using Instagram embedded posts for your blog posts without taking a proper permission from original creator, then, it is time to stop! Instagram is most likely going to start reviewing the policy for embeds because of a couple of legalities and law cases.

The first case was between photographer Stephanie Sinclair and Mashable. Sinclair had sued Mashable for using an embed of one of her Instagram posts within a Mashable story. The New York District Court ruled against Sinclair because it was an embedded image on Instagram. This means that Instagram was the host of that image, and as per Instagram’s Terms of Service, this was not a case of copyright infringement. Although, in reality, it was more like re-publishing the photographer’s work without permission.

Anyway, the court’s decision did align with the general rules of embedding, so it was acceptable.

But recently, as reported by ArsTechnica, a new case surfaced between photographer Elliot McGucken and Newsweek, when Newsweek offered to license an image by the photographer. He refused, and Newsweek should have left it at that. Instead, what they did was really inappropriate. Newsweek embedded a post from McGucken’s Instagram feed which contained that image in question.

Now, this is something really low, because here, the creator had already refused to get his image licensed or published in any way and Newsweek did exactly that while using Instagram embeds.

So, not only the Southern District Court ruled against it, but Instagram also leaped to defend its policies and call out the wrong as it was.

Instagram’s stance is that its terms allow them to grant a sub-license, but they do not grant these sub-licenses for their embeds API. Its policies need third parties to have the necessary rights from the applicable right holders. This means that these parties need to have a license to share some content if a license is required by the law, and the publishers need to take permission from the creators before embedding their posts.

Now, with this stance of Instagram, another worrying question that arises in minds is: Does Instagram mean that every embedded Instagram post all over the web is liable to be challenged legally in a court?

This is an alarming situation especially for the website and blog owners who used Instagram embedded images or content in their own posts.

Instagram has also stated that it will be exploring some new options which will give more control to the users over embeds, like an option through which users will probably be enabled to approve or deny embed requests. This will protect the rights of the creators and that is a good step if Instagram takes it.

There is also a chance that Instagram would ask the creator to remove the image that serves as the cause of disagreement, but this seems to be the last resort and a little unlikely. But, having said that, it is not completely known how Instagram will play out these options.

The point to note is that embeds are covered under some elements of the law, and that is why they can gain a definitive legal position if they are misused, especially when the host, Instagram is also trying to pull some strings related to embeds.

LinkedIn Introduces New Advertiser Tools and Shifts Product Plans in Response to Covid-19

$

0
Advertising is a big earner for any major social media enterprise, and LinkedIn is no different. This social media platform has tweaked retargeting options for advertisers and a big part of the reason why that is the case has to do with the fact that they want to make it so that advertisers can target the people that would most likely want to acquire their products and services.

The fact of the matter is that advertisers might want to target people differently based on how often they watch their ad videos, and LinkedIn is going to make this possible with advertisers now able to focus their efforts with data that shows who watched their video ads 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% of the time thereby helping them zero in on people that might actually be interested in the products and services that they are going to be offering at any given point in time.

LinkedIn’s product plan is also being changed up quite bit due to the reason that the covid-19 pandemic has changed the way a lot of people are expecting tech to behave in their favor. Virtual engagement seems to be something that LinkedIn is going to prioritizing quite a bit in the coming months, with live streaming in particular being something that the social media platform is going to be working on.

It’s fair to say that LinkedIn has been rather late to the live streaming party and it will be regretting that with live streaming in such vogue these days. An emphasis on such features is likely also going to make it more feasible for content to be made on the platform and shared, something that might help companies better interact with the people that they are communicating with on this social media platform all in all at the end of the day.

Facebook Messenger’s Chat Heads Feature Will Use Android 11 Bubbles API

$

Facebook introduced a new feature called Chat Heads to the Messenger app back in the year 2013. The chat heads feature allows the users to engage in multiple Messenger chats without having to jump back and forth between various applications.

With the chat heads feature, you can continue a chat while also multitasking on other various websites or apps. The company has been using its own custom overlay solution for the feature since the year 2013. However, the latest beta version update of Messenger indicates that the app switching to Android 11 Bubbles API.

Hani Mohamed Bioud first spotted the new change and according to him, the latest beta version of the Messenger app comes with a new setting for users to enable the Bubbles functionality. When you will click on the new setting, you will be taken to the next screen. Now, you can choose the conversations for which you want the floating chat heads to appear on your screen. The Android notification setting of the Messenger app will also display a new Bubbles sub-category.

With the new settings, you will be provided three options. The first option says, ‘All conversations can bubble’ which means that every conversation with your friends can appear in the form of a floating chat head. With the second option, you can choose to pick specific conversations that can bubble while the third option says that nothing can bubble.

With the latest update, a new icon has been added to the notification shade of the Messenger app. With this new icon, users can switch back to a particular chat head if a user has dismissed the chat bubble unintentionally. After the new updates will be implemented to the Messenger app, not much would seem different for the users. This means that if you are familiar with the regular Chat Heads system of the Messenger app, you will not notice any change. Users will still be able to access collapsible chat bubbles that they can move around their device’s screen.

If you want the new changes to be operational on your device, you should be using an Android smartphone running the Android 11 developer preview or beta. You will also have to download the beta version 268.0.03.118 of the Messenger app on your Android device. XDA-developers has also confirmed that the new feature works on Pixel 3a XL as well as Pixel 4 XL. When you will tap on a bubble, a floating window will appear where you can conveniently type a reply and keep a specific chat alive even while multitasking on other apps or websites.

The Bubbles API debuted with the developer previews of Android 10 back in 2019. However, the Bubbles API remained almost dormant until Android 11 enable the Bubble API by default. We expect that, with native support in Android 11, those applications that tap into the new Application Programming Interface will offer a more consistent behavior.

YouTube Introduces Rare, Vigorous Window Into Monetization Guidelines For Content Creators

$
0
0
YouTube, for the first time, is laying out in higher detail how the platform decides whether a particular YouTube video should be monetized by the platform or not. YouTube released the new guidelines as an update to its Self-Certification program.

Self-certification was first teased by the platform back in October 2018 and the company started testing the new tool in July 2019. YouTube tested the new feature among selected content creators in YouTube’s Partner Program. The feature is now being released in stages to the whole community of YouTube.

YouTube’s Self-certification program helps the platform to make monetization decisions quickly and more accurately. Content creators can rate the ad-friendliness of their content in this program. It also impacts the monetization systems of YouTube over time, learning to trust YouTubers when the ratings of creators are frequently consistent with the rulings of YouTube’s platform.

With that being, the company will not rely on self-certification if ratings provided by the content creators are found to be inaccurate. The platform explained in a new Creator Insider video that YouTube wants to make self-certification more transparent. YouTube derived the new policies from its internal policies. Conor Kavanagh, YouTube ads policy manager stated in the video that YouTube is the first content-centered platform to offer this transparency.

Kavanagh also added that YouTube is offering 4 times as much verbiage on monetization than the platform has been previously offering to self-certifiers. The company also plans to update this policy at least once every two months. The new guidelines released by YouTube consists of 8 sections including Adult content, Violence, Inappropriate Language, Sensitive Issues, Hateful content, Firearms-related content, Harmful or dangerous acts, and Recreational drug content.

YouTube has further sub-divided each section into 3 different monetization options. The first option allows the creators to turn on ads for specific content. The second option says that creators can turn on ads, however, only those brands who opt-in will run ads on that video. While the third option allows creators to turn off ads for a video. The company while disclosing the new guidelines, reiterates that YouTube is not seeking to define what sort of videos can be created, just what type of content can be monetized. YouTube also notes that YouTubers can also generate extra income by using other ways such as Channel Memberships, and Super Chats, etc.

A new update in Google Chrome 85 will make browsing less frustrating for its users

The Internet is now a major part of our lives and almost everything we do pretty much relies on it. In order to use internet browsers play a very important role as it can either make browsing easy for us or frustrating.

The users of most web browsers on desktop operating systems know the type of frustrating thing that happens with the option of drag and drop uploading.

Some users like us are so much used to the idea of drag and drop that they pretty much try to do every upload in that way. While trying to upload a file or an image onto a website some users come across the issue of websites not supporting the uploading of files in that way and sometimes the files user attempt to drag onto unsupported websites do not replace the content of the current tab at all and it’s not even the worst scenario where users also find the filled-in forms cleared.

Yes, we all pretty much came across these issues once in our lives at least but now thanks to Microsoft Edge developer Eric Lawrence, these issues will soon be resolved forever.

Google Chrome 85 will now be enabling users to open files in new tabs even if they accidentally drop it onto unsupported websites/widgets.

Twitter has always been the platform where users speak out their issues and companies even try to resolve them too and in case you want to illustrate the current problem you’ll see that this issue of drag and drop was first reported back in 2015 as the people complained about losing everything in case they missed the dedicated upload field in the text box while dragging and dropping.

So many websites don’t even support drag and drop features which result in users losing anything they typed into the editor. So, the drag and drop feature can be the most useful and the most frustrating feature depending on its existence on the websites.

The solution of Chrome 85 is something meant for people of both worlds, it is a solution for people who drag and drop a file onto a website just to view it in the browser window and they can do it so easily now as the files will open in new tabs now.

This new solution is also for the people who want to upload something on a website with drag and drop and with the new update; people can now even replace the content of the current tab by dropping the selected files into the address bar.

Similar to the update of removal of backspace in the Chrome 52 back in 2016, this new update in Chrome 85 is all meant to make the experience of browsing less frustrating for users.

Currently, this new change is live in Chrome Canary 85 and you can easily download it from here, but just keep in mind to not use it as a daily driver as it’s the most unstable variant of the browser for now.

Google is using different AI techniques to bring an improvement in the translation quality

Recently, Google announced some new innovative techniques that it is going to incorporate for translating 108 languages, which will be supported by Google Translate, a service that translates almost 150 billion words daily!

Google Translate already uses the technologies of 'neural machine translation,''rewriting based paradigms,' and 'on-device-processing,' and all these technologies made the translations quite accurate. But none of these techs can beat the human performance, and that is a fact.

The combination of all these technologies targeted low and high resource languages, inference speed, and latency. That is the reason why Translate showed great improvement of 5 or more points on all languages and 7 or more for the 50 lowest-resource languages with one year.

These improvements were measured by human evaluations and a metric system based on the similarity between a human reference translation and a system's translation, called BLEU.

Google Translate has also shown improvement in dealing with the machine translation hallucination phenomenon, in which AI models give weird translations when they are given nonsensical inputs.

The first technology that Google is now going to use is a hybrid architecture model. It is a hybrid of a Transformer encoder and a Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) decoder.

In terms of machine translation, an encoder encodes words and phrases as internal representations, and a decoder uses these representations to generate text in a language desired by the user.

If a data input language is natural, then a Transformer does not require to process the beginning of a sentence before it processes the end. And that is perhaps why Transformer-based models are considered more effective than RNNs. But RNN decoder is considered to have a great inference speed than the decoder within the Transformer.

Now, Google Translate has optimized the RNN decoder and coupled it with the Transformer encoder and created this low-latency hybrid model which is exceptional in its functionality!

Google also upgraded its Data Miner. It is now 'embedding-based' for 14 large language pairs instead of being 'dictionary-based'. This means that it uses fewer vectors of numbers to represent words and phrases while focusing more on 'precision,' which is the fraction of relevant data among the retrieved data and focuses less on 'recall,' which is the fraction of the total amount of relevant data that was retrieved.

This increased the number of sentences by 29% of what the miner extracted, and that is a good improvement.

Another technology that Google employed was creating a model for the treatment of noise in training data.

Noise is data which has a huge amount of information that cannot be understood or interpreted correctly. It harms the translation of languages for which translation is readily available and plentiful.

So, to address this noisy data, Google Translate created a system of curriculum learning, in which scores are assigned to examples using models trained on noisy data and tune them on 'clean' data. So, the models begin training on all data, then gradually start training on smaller and cleaner data subsets.

For low-resource languages, Google has deployed a scheme in Google Translate which uses parallel training data, in which each sentence is paired with its translations.

These techniques are especially useful in improving fluency.

Translate is also using the giant M4 Modeling, in which the M4 model translates among English and many languages. This model enables transfer-learning in Google Translate so that the insights obtained from training through high-resource languages which have billions of parallel examples can be transferred and applied to the translation of low-resource languages, which have a few thousands of examples.

Over the past few years, social media, particularly Instagram has proven to be beneficial for businesses. You may question how a service dedicated to picture and video sharing can help businesses perform better. However, the reality is that the Facebook-owned media sharing service provides brands with opportunities to reach potential customers easily and tell them what they are about.

Having a good amount of followers is the key to properly utilizing Instagram for its marketing benefits. While it’s pretty easy to purchase Instagram followers, here are 7 free ways in which you can increase the following of your business on Instagram. Although the ways we will be discussing here are free in terms of cost, they are effective enough to help you increase your brand's presence.

1. Be Approachable

To help people quickly decide if your Instagram is worth their time or not, you have to make sure that your profile is in its best form. Of course, it will take you extra effort to make your Instagram page completely unique and helpful at the same time. This will, in turn, help in making your page approachable.

For starters, you can make your Instagram account one of the best ones out there by ensuring at all times that your bio is updated. Additionally, using a name and picture that is relevant to what you are offering as a business is essential.

In simpler words, your IG page should convey a message that helps potential customers relate with your brand. You have to keep things professional and be easily reachable. Make sure that your profile is loaded with all the details that someone would require while they are looking up your company.

2. Put out exceptional quality content regularly

Catching and retaining the attention of people is extremely crucial when it comes to social media marketing. When you are utilizing a platform like Instagram for increasing the scope of your business, you need to be different from others. This uniqueness can be achieved by creating engaging content that is in accordance with your brand identity.

Not only do you have to publish creative content but you also need to do it regularly. Moreover, putting out your posts around noon time can help ensure max reachability since people are generally surfing their social media feeds at that time.

3. Plan your posts

Posting consistently is great but what’s even better is if you plan your posts ahead of time. Devising a posting schedule for your campaigns can take your social media marketing game to unrivaled heights.

Most of the people on the internet prefer following business pages that practice a consistent posting regime. So, plan smartly, do your research on the type(s) of content people are attracted to and make sure that every single one of your posts is related in some shape or form with the rest of the content on your page.

4. Collaborate with others

While you need to be unique, you don’t have to be alone in your mission of connecting with potential customers. Instagram boasts numerous accounts with impressive followings. Enlisting their help to reach out to your target audience is a smart idea.

If you are unaware, there are tons of Instagram influencers who are constantly on the lookout to get sponsored by a brand and do promotional activities for them. If you can manage to strike a deal with any of such influencers whose style of content is in accordance with your brand identity, your products/services can reach hundreds of thousands of followers who can benefit from what you are selling.

You should also know that there are several social media influencers out there who rely on different online tools and third-party apps to increase their Instagram following. For example, Stormlikes is a best site to buy Instagram followers. Similarly, HootSuite and Buffer are also great social media management platforms that can help in content curation and scheduling.

5. Reach the right people

Even though it’s important to have a considerable following on Instagram, only gaining followers shouldn’t be your goal. You need to attract users who are more likely to contribute to the success of your brand than others.

Your follower count can easily go up, thanks to the presence of uncountable bot accounts on the platform. However, what you need to ensure is that your message is reaching the right people, your target audience.

One way to determine if your followers are legit or not is to check if they are engaging with your content and sharing your message with their contacts. To get and retain these types of followers, you must interact with them regularly.

6. Know what your audience is looking for

Understanding the target audience is crucial for every business that strives to thrive. Going by that logic, you must understand what your Instagram audience is expecting from you. Once you nail that part, you can constantly put out content that is in accordance with their demands.

For this, you need to act wisely from the get-go. Experiment with new styles of content, filters, stories, etc. By assessing how your experiments go, you can determine what is keeping your audience involved the most and adjust accordingly. Respecting user interests will help your brand attain the status of “established” sooner rather than later.

7. Prioritize value

Even though Instagram marketing is all about promotions and selling stuff, we would advise you to think beyond that. Use your platform to inspire people, give value, and show them what you stand for.

You should always ensure that your brand appears more like a person that understands its audience and less like a mere body trying to rack up its sales count.

In the end, what really matters is how good of a job you do in making your account look impressive. We’d recommend you to not only understand but implement the above-mentioned points in your social media marketing strategies.

Working on getting the right message across and holding the attention of your audience can help increase your brand’s presence by leaps and bounds. That being said, we hope that the 7 points listed above did a good job of answering your questions relevant to the topic of the discussion.

Facebook Begins To Label Media Pages That Are Controlled By Their Government

The social media network, Facebook has started to label media outlets that are controlled by their government. The social media platform will label those media pages that are entirely or partially under the editorial control of their respective governments. The company made this new change following an announcement of the policy last year.

Facebook will start labeling ads from these media outlets later during 2020. The company will also start banning media outlets from advertising inside the United States that are controlled by a state. Facebook stated that the social media network is labeling these media outlets because they combine the influence of a media organization with the critical backing of a government. Facebook platform believes that users should know that if the news they are consuming comes from a media organization that might be entirely or partially controlled by a government.

The social media giant will label ‘state-controlled media’ pages based on a number of factors. These factors include information about the ownership as well as funding of a media outlet, the level of transparency around the sources of these media outlets, and if accountability systems such as corrections policy exist or not. If Facebook has labeled your media page as state-controlled media, you can appeal with evidence that your media outlet operates independently, including laws protect editorial freedom as well as a reliable judgment from an outside source.

Else ways, the company will include a notice to the media outlet’s pages globally. The label added by Facebook on the media pages will appear on News Feed posts in the United States. Users can already view these labels on some pages as well as posts of media outlets. You will see labels on pages and posts from those media outlets that been blamed to spread propaganda in the United States. These media outlets include Sputnik and RT, and both of these outlets are now considered as state-controlled media, along with other media outlets such as China Daily.

Facebook is not the first platform to label state-controlled media outlets, Google’s YouTube experimented with labeling new channels funded by their governments back in the year 2018. However, enforcement of this initiative has been inconsistent by YouTube.

The company states that those outlets controlled by their governments ‘rarely’ advertise in the United States. However, Facebook is banning these advertisements ‘out of an abundance of caution to offer another layer of security against different sorts of foreign influence in the public discussions ahead of the upcoming Nov 2020 presidential election in the United States.’

Facebook already removes ‘inauthentic’ pages that are found to be spreading propaganda or misleading information across the platform. Facebook’s labeling tool is part of a broader effort to protect the 2020 United States presidential election’s integrity. But, the company has still faced criticism for deciding not to fact-check posts made by politicians (including Donald Trump’s post) across Facebook’s platform.

The social media giant, Facebook has been planning to integrate its messaging applications, and now it seems that the company is testing new features to integrate Messenger with Instagram. The new functionality will enable you to view your Messenger messages in your Instagram DM.

Alessandro Paluzzi posted a screenshot displaying which highlights that Instagram is testing something new. The new feature will allow users to receive their Messenger messages on Instagram. The option says that ‘Get Messenger on Instagram.’ The company has also confirmed the test in tweet. However, Instagram stated that the new feature is currently not ready for public use. Instagram tweeted that the option is currently an early prototype and the company is not testing the feature externally.

The new functionality is part of the company’s broader plan to enable complete cross-messaging functionality across Facebook’s messaging apps namely WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram. This means that when Facebook will be able to enable full cross-messaging functionality across its family of apps, you will ultimately be able to send and receive text messages to and from any of these Facebook’s messaging services. This also indicates that the inbox will be required to be replicated within each Facebook’s application.

This is an important undertaking for the company to undertake. However, the ultimate result will be that whenever users will receive a message in any Facebook’s messaging service, that message will also be available on the other two messaging apps. With that being said, users can also expect that if Facebook introduces a new feature on any messaging app, the other two platforms will also receive the messaging feature soon.

The company has not made any noise related to this project, however, the new test confirms that Facebook’s integration plan is still in progress and the company is making efforts to connect its messaging platforms.

Additionally, it was also seen that Facebook is testing another feature- a new Plans sticker with some Instagram users. FDT, a marketing consultant posted some screenshots displaying the new sticker type called ‘Plans’ sticker. The new sticker enables you to schedule online meet-ups. The Plans sticker may also link to Facebook’s Rooms offering.

When a user adds the new Plans sticker, the user will be provided an option to include a date and info on your Instagram Stories viewers will be able to join the online meet-up. Those users who view your Instagram Stories can also see who else (among their friends on Instagram) has shown interest in the online meet-up.

The new option will also be good for webinars or product announcements. There are a lot of ways you can use the new Plans sticker to help promote various sorts of online meet-ups. There is not a lot of contexts available about the new option, however, we can say that the new option will be rolling out to US users as FDT is based in the United States. Although these new functionalities are not major, the new options still offer new considerations as well as opportunities. The messaging will become convenient across Facebook’s family of applications, and online meet-ups are also gaining momentum during the coronavirus lockdowns.

Instagram is working on a feature that may keep the users engaged even after they have reached the ‘You’re All Caught Up’ marker. Currently, the company is testing a ‘Suggested’ tab for recommended content within the home tab of the Instagram app.

When a person is online scrolling through all the Instagram Posts and swiping through all the Instagram Stories of people they follow on the Instagram app, ultimately a marker shows us that says, You’re All Caught Up. Now, if the user is done, and have the motivation, they quit the Instagram app, and jump to another app such as Twitter, or Snapchat, etc. However, Instagram does not want the users to switch to other apps, the social networking app hopes that the new Suggested tab will keep the users engaged for longer, particularly if the users do not check the Explore tab of the Instagram app.

Now, when a user reaches the end of the Home tab after the You’re All Caught Up marker, they will see two split tabs. This means that Instagram will displays users, two split tabs - Older tab and Suggested tab.

If a user taps on the Older tab, Instagram will display them the posts they have already seen. However, if a user tap on the Suggested tab, recommended posts will appear. Now, if you want to go back, you only have to switch to the Older posts tab, and you will start seeing the regular Home posts tab.

It seems that the company is making efforts to get more people to stick to Instagram’s platform. Instagram is also helping with the company’s e-commerce goal. It will allow more users to browse and shop thanks to the recommendation listings of the Instagram app.

Instagram has also confirmed that it is testing the new feature. In an explainer to Social Media Today, Instagram states that if a person is in the test, the feature appears after they have seen all the posts in their Home tab. Once a user gets the ‘You’re All Caught Up’ marker and they scroll past this notice, they will now have the option to view recommended posts from the Suggested tab. Users can also choose to go back to older posts that they have already seen.

The new feature may be interesting for users as they will not have to switch to the Explore tab for recommended posts. Most users switch to the Explore tab after the You’re All Caught Up notice appears, however, the new feature allows users to view recommended content without having to switch to the Explore tab. Still, some users who have the new user interface of the Instagram app are not happy with it. One of the users tweeted that the new UI is annoying and Instagram should delete it. Here are how users are reacting:

Downloading Third Party Apps Now Far More Difficult With New Android Update

$

Part of the charm that is associated with the use of Android phones is associated with having a lot more freedom than would be the case when it comes to using Apple devices such as iPhones and the like. However, with all of that having been said and out of the way it is important to note that the new update that is coming to Android might just change all of that, and a big part of the reason why that is the case has to do with the fact that you might not be able to download 3rd party apps quite as easily as might have been the case before.

While it is still possible to download third party apps, the process is a bit longer than it was previously. Now after trying to attempt one download of the APK required for the app to function, you will be asked to provide permission for this app to be download in the first place. Whereas previously this would have essentially worked by you giving permission and the app subsequently being downloaded quite easily with it being pretty much as simple as that and no more, now the downloader is forcibly closed after you have granted permission so you would have to start the process from the start once again with the permission having already been granted.

Some might think that this is a glitch and that Google wouldn’t make such a recognized part of Android work so poorly no but the fact of the matter is that the tech giant has responded to complaints about this sort of thing by saying that it is normal behavior and the system is pretty much just fulfilling functions that it has been designed to fulfill. This means that this is intentional which might be a problem for some people.
